Stan Lee - December 28, 1922 – November 12, 2018

Ok, this is one update I have to post RIGHT NOW.

Zach Snyder and Warner Bros have announced the casting of both Lex Luthor and Alfred Pennyworth for the Man of Steel sequel. Luthor will be portrayed by...Jesse Eisenberg? And Alfred will be played by Jeremy f'n Irons.

I'm usually pretty trusting of film casting and take a 'wait and see' approach before I judge. But I'm having a hard time seeing Eisenberg as Lex Luthor. Irons though, I like that casting. In at least one note of defense for Eisenberg, he is an Academy Award winner, as is Irons.

Here's the official release on the castings:
Snyder stated, “Lex Luthor is often considered the most notorious of Superman’s rivals, his unsavory reputation preceding him since 1940. What’s great about Lex is that he exists beyond the confines of the stereotypical nefarious villain. He’s a complicated and sophisticated character whose intellect, wealth and prominence position him as one of the few mortals able to challenge the incredible might of Superman. Having Jesse in the role allows us to explore that interesting dynamic, and also take the character in some new and unexpected directions.â€

Yeah, that seems like such a bizarre casting choice. Though I guess if they were trying to pick the least imposing Lex Luthor possible, then good job there.

I really like The Social Network but I really hate Eisenberg in everything since. He plays the same amped-up, affected character in everything. Maybe that would be a good note for Luthor, but with the same actor doing it over and over, it got old long ago.

Jeremy Irons is a rad choice.

I love the Jeremy Irons choice but hate the luthor choice solely because I hate Eisenberg and his acting they should have just forced Bryan Cranston to do it.

This is season of Arrow keeps getting better and better. Should we just make an official topic for Arrow?

We should. I just finished season 1 on Netflix. It quite surprised me how much better it was than I expected it to be.

I also concur with this, and I have barely a passing interest in comics to begin with.

Pretty good show so far. I wonder how season 2 is.

I downloaded all the episodes that have aired so far, and I like the direction it's been going. It's obvious that they've introduced some characters that must be people from the comics - unfortunately, I don't know who the fuck any of them are, except for one - and only because he also appears in batman comics which I am actually somewhat familiar with.

Hmmm actually after watching this, i realize it could work:

I mean, just have someone who doesn't believe in superman's ways (and is a huge A**hole) but is still being acclaimed by the public for being a successful CEO fight off superman behind a desk? I could see it.

Considering in Man of Steel they destroyed a huge portion of metropolis, and probably killed millions of people, I don't think it would be that hard to rally public opinion against him.

I mean, shit. September 11th was 12 and half years ago, and they still haven't rebuilt a building to completion in the the place of the world trade center. Metropolis was fucking ruined by the end of man of steel. I imagine people would be fairly unhappy.

Luthor will run for election and use the clip shots of Man of steel showing superman destroying metropolis in his campaign to bring an halt to superman and encourage small business owners to join his corporation. He won't turn the country into totalitarianism but he will create laws that will give him free access to expand his business everywhere while allowing competitions with limited power. Add in this scene then BAM we have a great film!
...and Lex will get my vote.

Ok see, now i know the film will suck cause there's no way they'll make something this awesome.

That's a great trailer, Lien.

Now that I've had a little time to process the information and ponder it, I'm going to take my own advice and wait and see how Eisenberg as Lex plays out before I pass judgement. I suppose I can see a young, skinny rich guy walking up to Superman and basically saying 'F you' for wrecking half of Metropolis. It'd at least give Lex a real reason to hate Supes other than just "he's Superman, I hate him and want his power".

The pilot NBC ordered for Constantine will be directed by Neil Marshall (Dog Soldiers, The Descent).

In my last report, I said Lady Sif will appear in an episode of Agents of SHIELD. Also appearing in that episode will be Lorelei, who in the comics is the younger sister of Amora the Enchantress. Also to be introduced is the cyborg Deathlok. I say introduced, but really, an already existing character on the show will become Deathlok in an upcoming episode.

Marvel and ABC appear to be gearing up to start filming a new television series in Vancouver. No word on what the project is, but it's going by the codename 'That Old Chestnut' and it seems to have a higher than normal budget for a tv show. The popular speculation is that it's a show based on Agent Peggy Carter, which Hayley Atwell has already said she'd be willing to do.

A while back, I reported that a film version of comic series Y: The Last Man was in the planning stages and had a director, producer and script ready to go. But no production has begun yet. Well according to Y co-creators Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra, if New Line doesn't start production in the next few months, the film rights will revert back to them.

While these are just miniatures and pictures, this seems to be what the turtles and Shredder will look like in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles:

I for one really like those designs. I find myself looking forward to this film more and more as time goes by.

According to Kevin Smith, the new Batsuit that Ben Affleck will wear is Jim Lee inspired, which would likely mean blue and gray, smaller bat ears and a big bat symbol on the chest. Affleck's wife, Jennifer Garner, has also seen the suit and calls it a "total reinvention". Another source close to the film is saying there will also be an armored Batsuit with silver and white plating. I'd assume an armored suit would be needed if Bats throws down with Superman

Since Warner Bros decided to push the Man of Steel sequel to summer 2016, Marvel has moved up the release of Ant-Man from July 31, 2015 to the July 17 slot where Man of Steel was.

Gal Gadot revealed that her contract with Warner Bros is a three film deal to play Wonder Woman. She also told that for the Man of Steel sequel, she will get paid $300,000. For that amount, I wouldn't expect her to have a very large role, probably not much more than Hawkeye had in Thor.

When asked about X-Men: Apocalypse, Director Bryan Singer had this to say: "What would people thousands of years ago, without the benefit of science, think mutants were? And more importantly, what would mutants thousands of years ago think they were? Gods? Titans? Angels? Demons?" Singer asked. "If such mutants did exist thousands of years ago, what became of them? Did one survive?"
Singer also says that none of the cast from the original trilogy will appear in the film and will focus on the characters from X-Men: First Class.

As for X-Men: Days of Future Past, here's the first look of the future Sentinels, the Mark X:
6563480f-b99d-44ac-93b7-2f5681933269_zps43f40696.jpg

The design is explained by production designer John Mayhre: “They’re biomechanical weapons. We had to come up with what would be the ultimate version that could actually, in principle, stop the X-Men. We started with this idea that they were almost made up of magnetic plates slapped over one another, imagining that the plates could contract or grow, so the Sentinel can be skinny to get through a small space or the plates can open up to become a bigger shape. So they have become virtually unstoppable.â€

The costume choice when compared to that above is actually pretty close to the comic.

Every time I think of Batroc though, I think of the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon where Batroc jumps around and yells 'Leap!' in a high pitched French accent.
