New Years Resolutions: 2015 Edition

Yup. Basically I'll spend a couple of hours on Sunday cooking and packaging the food. I use tupperware containers and for the food I'm going to eat soon (next day or the day after) I'll put in the fridge, the food I'm going to eat after that I'll put in the freezer.

I weigh all the food using an electronic scale, but to be honest I don't do it with 100% accuracy. For example, I'm supposed to have 300g of chicken breast for meal 2 and 3. I found a lot of my chicken was either a little bit under, or over. Never exact. Meh.

For the most part, I only really prep meals 2 and 3. Those are the meals I have at work where I won't have time to cook. Breakfast (meal 1) I just prepare the night before and it takes a couple of minutes. Meal 4 is honestly just a protein shake and some berries, so that's super easy too.

Meal 5 is quite small and easy, so I just do that after I get home from gym/judo.

It's meals 2 and 3 that are a kick in the balls.

^I'm giving serious thought to this. Hitting the gym, and pushing past the burn or pain has never been my issue... my caloric intake is the problem. I'm probably going to research this and give it a try for March. What did you use to build your plan?

Thank you good sir

I agree, I have a very similar problem Urban. My biggest problems is two things, flavoured milk (iced coffee) and over eating at dinner.

Iced coffee is one of, if not the most unhealthy drink you can put into your body and I'm pretty much addicted to that crap, but I haven't had one since Sunday though so go me.

At dinner, I tend to over eat. I'm just so Goddamn hungry at dinner time that I just eat everything, and seconds after that etc. This new meal plan, while it can be a bit boring at times, is helping me to kick cravings in the balls.

On the plus side, I'm allowed to switch from brown to white rice with all meals... brown rice takes too long to cook.

The program was built through "Recomposer", but it had to be set up for me, I couldn't make my own account/details. Basically, my new exercise and nutrition plan was developed by a fella down in Brisbane, Australia through his business "Muscle Nerd" - http://www.musclenerd.com.au/ - because he's interstate, I'm working through him via e-mail and phone correspondence.

If you're interested, try looking for a body recomposition specialist.

Three and a half weeks into my month long experiment without alcohol:
I gained a few pounds and my blood pressure is up.
This isn't going like I had planned.

Have you been eating/drinking (non-alcoholic) to compensate for the lack of alcohol? Sodas?

Sometimes when people take things away from themselves, such as giving up smoking, they'll use something else as a sort of, comforter I suppose. I've been told that people who give up smoking tend to put on a bit of weight after quitting, because they start to eat more often.

What kind of foods/drinks have you been having ever since you put off alcohol?

Wow, really?

If you don't mind me asking, you haven't been consuming larger portion sizes at all since dropping alcohol?

If not, that is really weird... :/

I gave up nicotine a little before new years. I had been using an ecig. This time it hurt more than the others times I have given it up. Maybe I am getting old. I now use my volcano vaporizer more and eat tons of food. No weight gain but I have been bowling a couple times a month.

Much love to anyone giving up the habit.

Sounds like you've met someone.
Like two years ago. Where have you been?

And I went down like five pounds initially, but now it's back up. Maybe it's just muscle. But probably not.
Blood pressure is up, though. That sucks.

Increased blood pressure is usually something that accompanies sitting alcohol. But still having it be a problem a month in seems a bit long.

Yeah, I don't quite understand the weight gain or the rise in blood pressure when your diet and physical activity is exactly the same without the alcohol.

I say keep going and see how you go, but if it gets worse you might have to visit a doctor.

Yesterday I spent about an hour or so cooking up my meals for this week. A friend of mine offered me some advice to make the experience much less stressful and make my meals tastier, and I feel like an idiot for not thinking about it myself.

Instead of cooking them all on a pan, my friend suggested to just throw 'em all in the oven and roast them. Marinate them lightly in a sauce so they taste better. So I did that and they turned out super well. I marinated them lightly in honey, soy and garlic sauce.

My weight is looking better too. Here's my drop so far:

Initial start (Saturday 21st February): 108.3 kg (238.7 pounds)
Today (Monday 2nd March): 103.9 kg (229.6 pounds)

That's a drop of 4.4 kg (9.7 pounds) in just over a week. Very happy with that. I suspect it'll slow down soon though.

I hope everyone's resolutions are working out well. Here's my status:

I have a gym set up in the garage now, I'm out there three or four nights a week with a regime consisting of stationary bike, punching bag, and weights. I've been eating sensibly for the most part. The weight loss is slow, but it's happening. Just need to keep with it.

I decided to pass on that girl at work I had my eye on. She didn't seem to receptive anyway. But recently, a girl I've known for maybe the past five years messaged me on Facebook out of the blue and said she wanted to hang out. I've always had an interest in her due to the great amount of shared intrests and the many things we have in common, but when we first became friends I was still married. And when I got divorced, she was engaged. And then other random factors in our lives were just non conducive for anything for awhile.

But we've been spending time together and enjoying every minute of it. Like the other night, we were going to go see Furious 7. I'd already parked the car at the theater and she's like, 'hey why don't we walk down to the liquor store and pick up some beers instead?'. And I'm like, YES! Today, we picked up her favorite fireball whiskey and had a movie marathon consisting of both How to Train Your Dragons, both Captain Americas and Big Hero Six. She's also taken me to my first hookah bar. Fun stuff. Plus she's a gamer; I had to get the new Forza so I can play with her. She likes comics, especially Batman. I tried showing her my Batman ring, she fist-bumps me. She plans to dress as Harley Quinn for an upcoming Con.

The guitar resolution is still in the cards. Haven't picked up Rocksmith yet, but the girl I'm seeing plays and said she'd teach me.

Everything's coming up Milhouse!

Wait, is she married now?
Because if so...
Just because there's a goalie doesn't mean you can't score.

Still, that's awesome!

Well done Paradox, that sounds great. Good job on the exercise, I'm happy to hear that you're doing that. :)

With weight loss you'll often find that in the first week or so you may lose a lot of weight, but eventually it'll slow down. That's okay, just keep going. All that matters is that you're dropping it, and that you're doing so at a healthy pace.

Good on ya regarding that girl too, that's great news too. Sounds like things are really coming together for you man. :)

Regarding my new year's resolutions...

1 - Drop weight.

I've been pretty successful with this so far, thanks to my new training and nutrition program. I'm really happy with the results so far. I'm not where I want to be but that's okay, all that matters is that I'm making progress. In five weeks I've dropped about 5 kg (11 Ibs) of weight and about 7% body fat, so I'm happy. :)

2 - Get better at judo.

A sort of... yay and nay. I think I'm getting better, but I think my improved fitness has been helping me here. I'll be competing at the Australian National Judo Championships this coming June so we'll see how I go. I want to win at least -one- fight.

3 - Draw more often.

Sorta... I draw when I can, from tiny sketches, to bigger sketches, to full fledged pieces. I'm not doing as much drawing as I'd like to.

4 - Be a happier and more positive person.

This is harder than it sounds. I'm a pretty insecure person and sometimes I wonder if I have some kind of anxiety issue, because for some reason people's opinion on me really affects how I feel and think and sometimes I just want to stop caring about certain things and focus on other things. I think that would make things easier. I have a lot of trouble walking away from some things. I'm trying though! :) I do feel better and more confident about myself but I need to learn to stop letting things get to me so easily.

5 - Learn to cook.

I've been doing pretty well here. Due to my new nutrition program, every Sunday I spend a couple of hours preparing all my meals for the week. I cook a bunch of roast chicken breasts, veggies, rice etc and I've been experimenting with spices and sauces to see what I like. I try to vary it as well to keep meals interesting. Still... I'd like to cook some nice dinners, like a pasta bake. :)

6 - Help my girlfriend.

I mentioned before that my girlfriend is moving in with us, turns out she'll be moving in sooner than expected (later this month). Regardless, I've really been helping her by doing a lot of cleaning and house work, basically making room for her, so I'm doing good here. :)

So far most of my new year's resolutions are working out well, but some of them still need work.

That's it from me.

No she's not married, the dude cheated on her a couple years ago and she kicked him out.

And keep up the good work Craig!
