New Years Resolutions: 2015 Edition

Remove dairy from breakfast. Oats with honey usually.
No more deli processed meats for lunch or burgers.
One serving at dinner.
Pretty much portion control.

Drink a ton of water. Decrease soda to caffeine survival needs.

Get on the treadmill and watch an hour long program on the iPad four times a week.

All this is proving to me is that I have been carrying extra weight from not exercising enough.

And sure, throw in some sex.

Nice work, Bretimus!

I lost about five kilos (11 pounds) in three weeks from my visit to Japan, dropping from 108kg to 103kg (238 pounds to 227 pounds). There's a few reasons for that.

-Japan was so Goddamn cold.
-We were walking almost every day for long periods of time.
-The food, apparently.

I've never done resolutions before, maybe this year I give it a try.

I've been divorced for almost two years now. I've been looking to incorporate female companionship back into my life and have my eye on a petite cute brunette at work. So two resolutions: #1 Drop weight. I've been a big guy all my life. I'm 35 now. If I dont work on it now, odds are I'll cut my life drastically short. I'm already changing my eating habits, I also need to get to the gym. #2 ties into #1: I'm more likely to catch a woman if I'm slimmer. That's just the way the world works. Perhaps I can woo that cute brunette with wit, humor and charm alone, but I feel my odds improve with each pound I drop. So there, I'm all resolutioned up.

We need to keep this thread going through the year with updates and progress. Group encouragement can go a long way.

Great work, Paradox. With weight loss, the first step is always the hardest but I'm glad you're taking it. I agree, we should all keep this thread going.

It might sound sad but you're absolutely right, you can certainly attract a girl with charm, humour and intelligence but as shallow as it may sound, being a bit slimmer (or even showing signs of work, e.g losing weight over a period of time) can improve your chances. Best of luck man. Keep us posted.

If you would like any assistance regarding diet, exercise, gym etc. I might be able to help (and same with a few fellow GRians, like intoTheRain and Green_Lantern). I'm no professional but I know a couple of things.

Also... I'm going to be a downer but I have some unfortunate and sad news that I would like to share with everyone, and it's regarding health and weight.

Long story short, when I was a teenager I didn't have many friends and I spent way too much time on the Internet. So while I didn't have many friends "iRL", I had quite a few close Internet friends from games and such, some of which I still talk to today, have on Facebook etc.

A good Internet friend of mine who I've known for ten years passed away last week. It was sudden.

One of my other Internet friends (who's boyfriend is "iRL" friends with our friend) told me about this over Skype while I was in Singapore. Shortly after, my friend's Facebook wall was covered in condolence messages from his friends.

I've always known he was a bit of a bigger guy but I didn't really know how big. He was apparently over five hundred pounds and had difficulty walking and standing. He passed away due to heart failure and leaves behind friends and family. He was only in his early thirties. Too young. He was a good friend. Unfortunately, I had no idea of his health decline.

My point is that people really need to take care of themselves, otherwise tragedies like this happen. We've gotta try and look after ourselves.

[Edit/Update] I found out that my Internet friend had passed away because of heart failure. Sadly, this would have been because of his weight.

Take care of yourselves, everyone.

I'm really sorry to hear that man. Both John Candy and Chris Farley passed away at 33. Hard to believe but it happens.

My condolences.

I appreciate that guys.

It is really sad and I'm still a bit of shock that it's actually happened, but it does. Just goes to show that we need to look after ourselves and if that means seeking support from others, whether it's family, friends or some kind of hired source, then do it.

Since getting back from Japan last weekend, I've finally gotten back into training starting last week on the Tuesday. Since I haven't done any gym or judo for almost four weeks, I am dying. Everything hurts.

I don't know about you guys, but I hate taking breaks from training and then getting back into it. The first week is always horrible.

On a slightly relevant note, my girlfriend and I are travelling to Brisbane (Queensland, Australia) in a couple of weeks to see violinist Lindsey Stirling live. While down in Brisbane that weekend, I'll be visiting a body composition specialist who will help me get a diet/routine on track to help me drop a bit of weight. Wish me luck. :)

Good luck guy.

Another resolution I've added to my list is to learn how to play guitar. With absolutely zero experience, I expect to shred like James Hetfield by end of year.

One month update.

Resolution one is not coming along as well as I had hoped. I sent in an application, but so far I only have one letter of recommendation. Fuck. I've got until April to get two more.

Resolution 2: I finished most of the first book and then lost it, so I skipped to the second. Whatever.

Resolution 3 is coming along nicely. I've hit the gym every day this last month. But I've only done cardio, so fuck muscle mass.

Resolution 4 is still unfulfilled.

New monthly resolution: No alcohol the whole month of February. I realized that since I turned 21 I've gone maybe two weeks without a stiff drink. No more of that. Time to cut out the biggest fat maker in my life.

Thanks Paradox, appreciate it.

I've always wanted to learn an instrument. In all honesty, I would love to learn the violin. I'd also like to be able to read music.

Hey Paradox, regarding you learning the guitar (good luck by the way) what about that "Rocksmith" game? The game where you use a guitar peripheral to learn how to play the guitar?

I've got a mate who plays that game and he uses it to learn bass guitar. He's quite good at it now, actually. Entirely taught by those games. Might be worth looking into, if you haven't already?

Nice work Longo. :)

Resolution 1 - You've still got plenty of time. You've got what... about two months? Good luck with the process regardless, man. Hope you get those letters of recommendation in time.

Resolution 2 - I don't read books at all so you're doing better than me on that part.

Resolution 3 - Beautiful work with the gym, that's excellent. I would recommend doing some weights with your gym work, hell it doesn't have to be everyday, you could do weight training three times a week, once every second day (so Monday, Wednesday and Friday) then fill your other days with cardio.

If you do go that route, I'd suggest doing barbell exercises of big lifts like bench pressing, overhead pressing, squats and dead lifts.

Either way it's just a suggestion but at the end of the day - you're exercising at the very least, that's all that matters. Excellent work.

Resolution 4 - Who wants to take showers anyway?

New monthly resolution - The no alcohol thing is going to do you wonders. It'll be a massive help to your weight loss goals. You can do it.
