Need advice

If you plan on getting a next gen console I would suggest getting 1080p

Even at 32 inches and sitting say 8 feet away? (I totally just made that viewing distance up. I have no idea where he will be sitting.)

I googled that because a true 1080p LED projector for that price seems too good to be true. One review, that a guy posted on youtube says it isn't true 1080p, it's actually 800x600 and it does not handle digital television. Also, how well would that really work in a moderately lit room. Apparently it can take 1080p but it converts it and displays it at a lower resolution. Again, this is based off of one guys review of it. I haven't found much info on it at all. Apparently it displays 640x480 according to a review on Amazon.

Call me crazy but I'd rather have a 720p well reviewd Samsung than a 1080p Scepter.

Samsung does make better TVs. I still would just spend a bit more and get a samsung 1080p. I know $380 is alittle over you budget though.

I've had good experiences with going to best buy. If the TV breaks I can just take it back in to them. They also will often pricematch.

Oh if upping the budget yeah, I'd totally go for 1080p.

I'm starting to think "kingg5" is just an alt account that Lethean and Deez set up to ask this question so they could go Hypothetical Shopping.

This is 8 inches smaller but I found this LG 1080p set.

It's 299.99 right now.

Seems like the Westinghouse has 120hz, larger screen but weak colour and low contrast.

The LG does not have 120hz, is smaller but has pretty good image quality. So yeah. Both have their pros and cons.
Here's my alternative to the Westinghouse.

Same price, size, and likely to have better colors. Only 60Hz, but the 120 CMR sounds like a good deal.

I would highly recommend getting a full HD (1080p) TV, especially if you're going to get a next-gen console like an X-Box One or PS4. Hell, even though most PS3/X-Box 360 games run at 720p, a full HD TV is still sweet, especially when watching Blu-Rays on a PS3.

In mid-2011 I bought a 40" full HD LCD Sony Bravia smart TV for $800 AUD ($733.20 USD). I realise this is a lot higher than your initial budget, but for me it was certainly worth it as I'm still using that same TV today.

When I first got my PS3, we had an old analog/SD TV that wasn't wide screen and was probably about 32" or so, I would say less. When I wanted to get a HD TV for the PS3, I debated with my family about it as they believed there's no difference between SD or HD, despite my argument. When we got the new TV, I decided to test it with Mass Effect 2 for PS3 and well... yeah - they finally agreed with me that HD looked a "little bit" better.

Everyone here has given you some pretty solid advice. My only advice really is "get a new TV". :p
