Let's post some pictures! (Of yourself or..Whatever else.)

Hey guys, a bit of shameless promotion here, but it's not for me, it's for a friend of mine. He didn't ask me to do this, I just think he does wicked work.

A mate of mine is making a comic. I'm really proud that he's doing it and I really like it, so I thought I'd share it with you all. It's called "Astounding Tales of Super Hero Fiction". Here's a quick snippet:

The story is about an Indigenous Australian journalist from the Northern Territory (our home state), Kyle Burton, who discovers his latent superpowers of energy manipulation. Thrown into the world of Australian superheroes, he takes up the code name "Zero-Point" from his estranged father. Like his father before him, Kyle takes up the never ending battle against injustice, making friends and enemies from the government and the Victorian superhero community. Zero-Point shortly discovers that the "right" choice and the "moral" choice don't always line up.

The art style has evolved over time. Originally, the author/artist Jonathan was using a more stencil style artwork, particularly with the backgrounds, but now has gone into a more cel shaded look with his characters with a painting style for the background. I much prefer his later style, but I'm glad to see Johno is taking risks and experimenting with different styles.

If you'd like to check the comic out, you can have a look right here from the very beginning - http://hero-fiction-comics.tumblr.com/page/118

The colour one, I imagine the main reason you took the photo was for the "streaks" in the rock? Without colour it's just a fucking boulder.

Which brings me to this....why did you take a picture of a rock?

Little do we know, it's Lethean's CGI artwork!
More like the gray one is the real picture Lethean took on an expedition to the Moon, and the second one is artificially colored in using his uber leet photo editing skills.

I liked the curves and usually people stick to symmetry and lines so I thought I'd try my hand at something with curves and see how it turned out.

Yeah I prefer the colour rocks. Nice to look at and more interesting than the black and white.

Black and white photography does have a place, but it needs to be heavily contrasted with white/black, not so much grey.

I drew this last night. Something I have never drawn before... a Dwarf!

I have called him Thor.

Basically I sketched him out and then inked it up with basic inking. I'm trying to practice inking.

His proportions were... different, since he's a fantasy-style dwarf. I used Varric from Dragon Age: Inquisition as reference.

The proportions are pretty great, other than maybe the enlarged feet and hands, but I get that is a stylistic choice. The shoulder pauldron cape thing is wonderful.

Yeah, I gave him big feet and hands on purpose. Kinda going for a World of Warcraft look I suppose (as their Human males tend to have massive hands/feet). Cheers for the positive comment and feedback. :)

I have a chalk wall in our basement for the kids that we just put together. So far I have the most art submissions on it. None of them worth posting.

Parenting, you're doing it right!

My work diary here in the office usually serves me well for writing down tasks, goals and reminders, but more often than not it serves as a makeshift drawing pad.

This quick sketch of a cartoony Solid Snake from the first Metal Gear Solid was drawn in a couple of minutes while I was waiting for a client to rock up to the office.
