I'm going to considerate this as you pushing your beliefs on me without any compassion or care for my freedom of being agnostic....

Hawking may be a genius but in the end he is still just a man with a theory, albeit an interesting one. I hate to break out to you, but for millions of years our greatest minds believed the world was flat, the sun revolved around the Earth and lightning was created from Zeus. Who is to say our greatest minds today are also wrong?

The idea of having a religious belief is called faith. It's the idea that if nothing can be proven in factual terms then it's better to have something to believe in besides an empty void.

For once, I would like Atheists to prove me wrong by not trying to shock Christians with their anti-God message. If you want attention, go to MySpace and post up some Emo pics.

And I'd also like Christians to stop telling me they're going to pray for me because I'm go to hell.

And I'd like Muslims to stop the hatred towards Christians and Jews FFS. And don't tell me that's prejudice because we're all fully aware of the attitude Muslims from the Middle East have towards white people.

The only people who don't seem to give a damn and are peaceful seem to be the Buddhists. Maybe that's why everyone likes them to come extent, they don't annoy the hell out of us and aren't hateful.

You don't believe God exists? That's fine, just don't push your beliefs on me. You do believe God exists? That's also fine, but again, don't push your damn beliefs on me.

I'm probably not right either but at least I don't try to convince others my belief system is the way to go.

I really, REALLY do want organized religion to stay the hell out of the media and the hell out of at least the US government though. When it gets into positions of power like those it just spells disaster.

religion deserves to be attacked - religion has attacked peoples freedoms since the beginning of man. the faithful have been persecuting, mutilating, and executing people without faith, or of a different faith, simple because of their stance on faith. Im not asking the religious to answer for their crimes, but I think they can take a little ridicule from the GR community - without crying.

The title of this topic is stupid for many reasons. Foremost of which is the assumption that atheism, which relies entirely on scientific explanation and theism, which asserts that a supernatural power beyond known science has had a hand in the world's creation are mutually exclusice.

I prefer to summate my opinion with a simple quote:

What? People have attacked in the name of "religion" but "religion" as a concept has never attacked anybody.

Also, Jesus was more of a liberal than a socialist. The church in Acts was a commune and it didn't make it past Acts 13ish...

One the BBK and I happen to agree on is people should be allowed to believe EXACTLY what they want to believe and the second it becomes a competition was a "this vs. that" it turns into a piss war.

these type of topics are so damn lame. let people believe what they want. no one has no right to force their beliefs onto someone else. once you try, then that is when you are in the wrong. let people believe what they want. no one religion, or lack there of is more right or wrong than the other.
