What do you guys think? This is a damn epic buy for me...Skyrim might get in the way, but it's a definite Christmas List addition.

If I recall correctly, I'm still the forum's record holder in Sonic 2.

Regardless, yeah, it looks pretty good. Hearing about Shadow is a little lame, because he was awesome at first and then became WAAAAH DRAMA.

Not too interested. Sonic was marginally fun when it was one of the few games I owned and my parents wouldn't buy me any more. Now that I can choose, I'll pass.

The demo was... Sonic. So if you're into more Sonic, then have at it.

@Blackstar, it's Modern Sonic.

So Modern Sonic is Present Sonic and Classic Sonic is Past Sonic. However, Classic Sonic is my Present Sonic since I only played Classic Sonic and none of the newer sonic games. Therefore Modern Sonic which is your Present Sonic would actually be my Future Sonic and Classic Sonic is my Present Sonic even thought he's Past Sonic in this game.

EU release on my birthday. And I've pre-ordered the CE edition.

Happy birthday to me!

And Skyrim is hitting the shelves 7 days later...

I'm just lovin' that modern Chemical Plant zone. And I love how the music dampens (teehee) when you go underwater.

Best zones (imo)
Sonic The Hedgehog: Green Hill Zone, Starlight Zone
Sonic The Hedgehog 2: Chemical Plant Zone, Metropolis Zone
Sonic The Hedgehog 3: Hydrocity Zone, IceCap Zone
Sonic & Knuckles: Flying Battery Zone, Death Egg Zone

All this mostly because of the music that played during these zones. They are either earworms or later received epic (metal) remakes.

Errrr...you forgot Mystic Cave zone! That's my ring tone. When the right ears hear ti in public, they'll gather round me like I invented fucking fire dude!
...Hasn't happened yet, but it will!

Sadly, there's even screenshot evidence to prove this :(
We should re-do Classic tourney but with Sonic 1...no other games seem to work out.

Shame Chemical Plant and Metropolis Zone are such terrible levels...

Though did you know on the Chemical Plant boss fight, if you hold the down button Robotnik can't hurt you with his attacks?

@ MattAY: Yes, I forgot about that one. And now I got the song stuck in my head. An earworm if there ever was one! And the zone is pretty nice to play as well.

@Longo:

...

I did not know that. I might want to try that out later.

Chemical Plant Zone wasn't that bad. Yes, the underwater/toxic bits were annoying, but overall I enjoyed the Zone. It is quite easy to cut the underwater sections to a minimum if you know which path to take.
I never understood why the boss battle for that Zone is so hated. It isn't that hard, it comes down to timing.

Metropolis... yes, that one I do hate. Not as much as Oil Ocean, but it is a close second.
Aside from Metropolis' nice music, the zone is too slow. A lot of timed jumps and confusing drops/hallways. Worst of all: the zone is split into 3 parts. It just drags on too much.

OT:
Which levels/remakes are confirmed.

So far I see Green Hill and Chemical Plant zone mentioned.

Found a list:

Xbox 360/PS3 Version:
Green Hill from Sonic the Hedgehog
Chemical Plant from Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Sky Sanctuary from Sonic & Knuckles
Speed Highway from Sonic Adventure
City Escape from Sonic Adventure 2
Seaside Hill from Sonic Heroes
Rooftop Run from Sonic Unleashed
Planet Wisp from Sonic Colors

3DS Version:
Green Hill from Sonic the Hedgehog
Casino Night from Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Mushroom Hill from Sonic & Knuckles
Emerald Coast from Sonic Adventure
Radical Highway from Sonic Adventure 2

I dont know if that's ALL the levels or just an ongoing list...but some good ones in there. I would've perhaps preferred Casino Night in the console versions rather than the 3DS version - but whatever!

I looked it up and I think the wikipedia page actually states that Casino Nights will be a DLC bonus level at one point for the console versions.

Gaaaaaay. I see why, they have one stage from one game. But Casino Night is one of the best Sonic levels out there! Swap it for Seaside Hill or something!

Too few 2D sonic levels imo. And not even the best stages.

To be fairly honest, I only like classic sonic. I never really got into the whole Sonic Adventures series. The Rush series on the DS were mildly amusing, but the loads and loads of characters and convoluted story ticked me off. Sonic Colors was the first Sonic game in a very long time that I enjoyed playing, but the forced unlocking and backtracking got old really fast.

No, the best Sonic games were the 4 main releases (1, 2, 3 and S&K) on the MegaDrive.
Sonic is about action, fast gameplay and above all being a speedy hedgehog. Just give me (us?) level after level. Perfect ending? Go try again to grab all the Chaos Emeralds!

Ah well, wishful thinking and all that.

I've always been a big fan of (classic) Sonic over Mario, but even I must confess that Mario has transitioned well into the 3D theatre while Sonic has not.

Perhaps a reboot with just a few characters would be preferred. Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Dr. Robotnik (Eggman what?), Metal Sonic and maybe Amy... why would you add loads and loads of additional (useless) characters anyway?

Oh, and cut off the amount of story/exposition.
Any Sonic game should have the following storyline: Dr. Robotnik is up to no good with the (possible) aid of Metal Sonic. Sonic must stop him. Rival Knuckles is there to mix things up. The rest all just pure gamplay.

Using the same plot over and over again worked for Mario, so why not Sonic?
