Just Another Day Part 14
The boy needed to act and he needed to act fast. There was really only one thing to do. Get away. If the monster had made it this far that meant the men outside were dead. He placed both feet against the back wall and waited for a clear path. The Glorn was blindly pawing around the room at this point. As the arm moved to the other side of the cabin, the boy pushed with all his might. He covered the short distance with his arm stretched out and hit the button with his hand. A soft tone sounded, followed by a loud thump, as hiis momentum slammed him into the wall. The noise must have alerted the Glorn because hot pain filled his shoulder. It's sharp claws ripped into him and blood filled the air. Why hadn't the door closed? He looked at the panel again and saw the reason. The screen read CONFIRM. He slammed a fist into it and the door slammed shut, severing the arm from the beast. As systems came online, gravity systems engaged, dropping the boy to the floor and spattering his blood all around him. "Launch in 3 seconds, 3." As the gravity coming online, the seat locks engaged Across the cabin the girl struggled against them, trying to get to the boy. "2." "It's gonna be alright, there has to be a med-kit," she cried. "1." The thrusters engaged and the pod blasted away from the Phalanx and into the dark void of space. A pool of blood spread around the boy. "...everything...red," the boy mumbled, "never get used to that sun." He was so tired. His shoulder didn't hurt as much any more, and everything was blurring. It hurt his eyes, so he closed them. His breath came slower and slower, until it eventually stopped. As the seat locks disengaged, the only other sound filling the room was the quiet sobs of the girl.
