So... a long time ago I tried getting into drawing web comics. I've tried a few times now. At first I tried back in 2008 - 2009, then I tried again in 2012 and now I'm kinda doing it with GR Strips. I love drawing and I'm grateful that I have the opportunity to draw comics right here at GameRevolution, but one day I would love to draw my own comics once again.
Back in 2008 - 2009 I was about twenty, twenty one years old. It was my first attempt at comics (some of which I have posted right here on the forums a very long time ago), they were quite low res but somehow... I dunno, I just like 'em. As dumb as it sounds, when ever I need inspiration, I look to these original comics, why I started trying to draw comics in the first place. I'd like to share them with you all.
Be warned. This will be a long post and I apologize in advanced.
01 - "I Disagree"
This comic was when both Break.com and deviantART (sites I used to frequent) got dramatic make overs. deviantART's makeover at the time was horrible. They've improved now, I guess.
02 - "Defying Physics"
This comic is really immature, but it introduces the four characters I had planned on using. Jeff (green shirt), Eugiene (blue shirt), Laurence (red head) and Layla (girl). Jeff and Eugiene were based off close friends of mine "iRL" who I'm still friends with today, Laurence was essentially a stereotype of the "Internet basement dweller" and Layla, who's name was inspired by Eric Clapton's "Layla" is the token female. I had originally wanted Layla to be a wannabe dark-goth character who had a secret obsession with Pokemon and Pokemon related products.
Immature, I know.
03 - "The Unspeakable"
This was around the time HD DVD was around and at war with Blu Ray. This comic was based off a discussion between a friend and I.
04 - "Waterworks"
I came up with this comic when I was in the bath room and there was a moth flying around me. Don't ask.
05 - "Genetic Projection"
I love the Fallout games and despite initial paranoia of Fallout 3, I loved that game too. However, I thought the whole genetic projector thing was really stupid.
06 - "Dark Side"
Not exactly my funniest comic. In fact, it's one of my dumbest. I'm not proud of this one.
07 - "Get It?"
This one will be hard to read due to the size, but basically... I can't stand the web comic "Ctrl+Alt+Del", I really can't. I don't like it and I don't like Tim Buckley. That being said, I respect, and am somewhat envious of Buckley's success... so I decided to do a parody comic about one of Buckley's most infamous story lines.
08 - "Still Alive"
I didn't have the best writing back then (in fact, I still don't) but I enjoyed drawing this comic due to drawing it from a first person perspective. It was a lot of fun.
09 - "I Love Me Some A.I"
I'm sure we can all agree that despite how awesome Fallout 3 was, the A.I in it was completely retarded. Star Paladin Cross, don't use your hammer, use this gun instead. Got it? You're holding the gun now? Good. Wait. Why are you running? Why do you have your hammer? You stupid f-
10 - "If Only"
I got bored at uni a lot. Again, this one isn't that funny either and might be a bit difficult to read.
11 - "Stop And Stare"
I used to work at a video game store, or well... a store that sold video games, as well as a lot of other things, I worked in the games area. It was Australia's version of Best Buy, being JB Hi-Fi. One day the song Stop and Stare was playing and I heard some guy say "I hate this fucking song" and that's where this comic came from.
12 - "Results May Vary"
I guarantee you, this is what will happen to you if you watch Dragon Ball: Evolution.
13 - "Budokai"
I had a couple of mates who would fart at each other all the time and depending on how loud or/and smelly the fart was, they would yell out particular anime/video game techniques.I also really liked Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3, that was a fun game.
14 - "Gentleman's Midnight Critique"
This movie was also really, really dumb.
15 - "Dreams"
I wanted to explore the minds of the four characters I had made, and I also wanted to make a super creepy comic.
16 - "Payback"
Again my maturity strikes here. I like to think I've grown up a little bit... just a little.
17 - "Bring Out The Big Guns"
One of my favourite comics. I really enjoyed Resident Evil 5, but my mate and I couldn't stop making fun of Chris' ridiculous arms.
Hope you all like my old stuff!
