Console (and Game) That Made You Become a Gamer

does anyone else find it funny that people claim to have beaten games at 2 or 3 years old? i mean it seems a little far fetched to me.

anyways my first system was the genesis when i was 5 or 6 now that was 15 years ago but i still remmeber playing the crap out of sonic 1 but i could only get as far as the casino, now tell me if anyone rembers this gem, skeleton crew for the genesis my friends and i used to play that game on co op for hours

Yeah, a lot of people are using this topic to show off how cool they were as babies and what their first console/game ever played was. Obviously I played a ton of games prior to the N64, but I don't think I could call myself a "gamer" before some of the experiences I had with it and the PSX.

i would have to go with Mario..i mean he started in the 80's and is still on top of the charts...
First Sonic game i played was on Dreamcast and i loved it

Back when I was about 3 years old we had an Atari, and I got hooked on video games playing Donkey Kong and Tank Wars, ET and Wizard of Wor. I still have the Atari and all the games in a box in my closet and, although it's been a few years since I last hooked it up, it should still be working.

Well it was Super Mario World and Donkey Kong Country that initially got me hooked, because I was just fascinated by the concept that its like watching TV, but you're in control of what happens.

First time I became like a hardcore gamer, though, was Zelda: Ocarina of Time. First Zelda game I ever played, and I was just pulled in. I'd say you wouldn't believe the hours I wasted at the fishing pond, but I'm sure anyone else who played OoT would know the feeling already.

Oh, Goldeneye and Diddy Kong Racing also brought me into First Person Shooters and Racing games, respectively. I'd played Super Mario Kart on the SNES, and the SNES version of Doom, but couldn't quite grasp the concepts at the time (especially Doom and its first-person view). Mario Kart was just hard for me.

N64 - Super Mario 64 (and yes, i know i'll be called a baby, or a child, or a prepubescent monkey boy etc.).

SNES.

We got Super Mario All-Stars with Super Mario World. Me and my mom beat Mario Bros. 2: The Lost Levels when I was 5.

Then Super Metroid. Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest turned me on to RPGs.

When I was about 6 or 7, 13 years ago, I got an NES from a friend who's dad told him to get rid of it. Also got 2 crates of games, about 50 or so. Got hooked on Zelda, Cobra Triangle, Contra, and Excitebike. Oh, and of course Mario. Didn't have the gun but I had the 2 in 1 Mario/Duck Hunt game.

Ah, the good old days.

Super Street Fighter II on SNES. I had epic gaming marathons with my friends during the summer. Once I finally learned how to do the awyuken (something like that) on command with Ken, was when I knew I was a gamer.

NES, Super Mario Brothers/Duck Hunt (both in the same game)

wow, i remember being soo happy and excited when i beat the game, and then beat the game again in the harder mode.

Which console (and game) was the one that mad you a true, hardcore, video game loving gamer? I'd say that the N64 and Ocarina of Time (and maybe Super Mario 64 too) probably did that for me.
well I'd go with SNES A Link to the Past was where it started but what really got me was Breath of Fire 3 for PS
