Final Fantasy XV - 9 / 10
Finished Final Fantasy XV for PS4 last night. Clocked in just over sixty hours of game time.
I heard the main story is "short" and can be finished in twenty to thirty hours, but if you take your time with it and do some side quests (the hunter's quests are pretty fun), you'll get a lot more life out of it.
Despite its flaws, I really enjoyed it. It's certainly the best Final Fantasy I've ever played. Graphically it looks amazing, the open environments are awesome, I loved the soundtrack, the Bro-Force is likeable and the combat system is really fun. Some of the writing and story are a bit confusing and questionable, but overall I had lots of fun with this game, hence why I'm giving it a 9 out of 10.
Final Fantasy is unfortunately never perfect. My biggest problem with the game is about half way through, or perhaps just over, the game becomes extremely linear and very point A to point B. The beginning half is open world, you can explore a massive land, do side quests, explore dungeons/caves and completely ignore the main story... but then, the second half of the game just loses this sandbox element and becomes very direct.
Without spoiling too much, chapter thirteen is notorious on the Internet for being the worst chapter of the game. When I played and experienced chapter thirteen for myself, it's very clear to see why... it's really, really shit, to say the least. I hated this chapter and did everything I could to get through it as fast as possible.
The game has plenty of post-game content as well, which is awesome, so I'll be spending some more time playing this one.
My partner has bought me a "surprise" birthday present which... I know because I saw her pick it off from the shelf before she told me "You saw nothing". Next up I'll be playing The Last Guardian.
I should also return to Telltales' Batman, as I now have the fifth and final episode.
