2016 Completed Games List

I would go so far as to say that if you only played through the campaign, you haven't actually played the game.

Fair enough, man. I guess we're just a bit over it at this stage, due to the repetitive game play. Might return to it later down the track.

Speaking of games.

Hitman: Episode 3 - A Gilded Cage (Marrakesh) - 8 / 10

This one has been on the back burner since it came out, but last night I finished Episode 3 "A Gilded Cage" of Hitman.

I enjoyed it, but not quite as much as I did with Episode 2, World of Tomorrow. Episode 3 felt like the easiest level so far. Admittingly though, I lacked finesse when taking out the two targets... ended up having to knock people out in the process to get to them and snapped the necks of both targets, so not the most graceful assassination ever.

Still, got 4 out of 5 stars and a good score (no bodies found, only targets killed etc) but I think I'd like to return to this level and see what else I could achieve.

I've got Episode 4 and Episode 5 too. Hopefully I can finish them before next week. Next week, Rise of the Tomb Raider is finally out for PS4.

I finished my first season on Diablo III (in two days), so I'm counting that.

Seasons on the PC version challenge you to start over with a completely fresh character (no shared stash or paragon points from normal characters) and complete objectives that have you going all the way to Torment IV and soloing a level 20 Greater Rift.

Over the weekend I finished Episode 4 and Episode 5 of Hitman. I really enjoyed these episodes, they were much better than Episode 3.

I enjoyed Episode 4 because of the environment it was set in and I enjoyed Episode 5 because it was a different kind of level, where you're sneaking into an enemy base of sorts and enemies are immediately hostile. Having four targets to kill in Episode 5 was interesting, especially in some of the methods how you could do it.

Looking forward to Episode 6 which is set in Tokyo. I believe this will be the last one.

Batman: Arkham Asylum (Return to Arkham) - 8.5 / 10

I just finished Batman: Arkham Asylum (Return to Arkham) on the PS4 yesterday on the weekend.

Once upon a time, I would have easily given the game 9 out of 10 or even slightly higher, but when playing this remaster, I'll give it an 8.5 out of 10, which is still a good score in my book but as this is a remaster, there's a few things that could have been better.

I still had a blast playing it and for the most part, the remaster is impressive. The character models have been improved, lighting looks awesome and textures are higher in resolution. The game is also a bit brighter but that actually unmasks some of the games visual short comings, so we can see blockier objects and assets. I also noticed that Arkham Asylum has sudden frame rate drops in the most odd of places... fighting a bunch of guys? No worries, game runs fine. Going around corners and running through corridors of the asylum? Frame rate drops.

As we all know, the boss fights are kinda crap because they're all mostly the same. Killer Croc is disappointing, Bane is just another TITAN boss and the final encounter with Joker leaves a lot to be desired. I actually think in the final fight with Joker, if the camera wasn't so far zoomed out, the battle would have been a lot more intense.

As good as the combat system is, it's not as good as Arkham City, but that didn't really downgrade my experience.

Playing Arkham City now and damn I love that game. To me, Arkham City is the perfect Batman experience.

I was home sick yesterday as unfortunately I suffered some nasty food poisoning from the other day, so aside from sleeping most of the day and getting some time to work on this week's GR Strips, I finished off Batman: Arkham City and the Harley Quinn's Revenge DLC.

Arkham City is my favourite of the Arkham series. It has great boss fights, a cool free roaming environment that's not too big or small and for the most part, a great combat system. The Return to Arkham remaster for Arkham City looks great, too.

I didn't have too many issues with this. The frame rate was funny, sometimes it would be suddenly silky smooth at sixty frames per second, sometimes it would drop less than thirty. The inconsistency would feel weird because it felt like the game is suddenly being fast forwarded.

I also found as good as the free flow combat system is, it's not flawless. Sometimes, Batman would just go off and attack the air, ruining a combo, or you would attack the wrong opponent. Most of the time it's good though.

Harley Quinn's Revenge is an okay DLC, but in my opinion it's lost potential. It's a shame the game sticks you mostly inside the steel mill. I also wish Robin had the same abilities as Batman, such as disarming enemies and dismantling their weapons. The story is a bit bland too, doesn't really feel conclusive. I guess that's what Arkham Knight was for anyway.

I think I play way too many games. :/

Dishonored 2 (Emily's Campaign) - 8.5 / 10

I just finished Emily's campaign in Dishonored 2.

For the most part, I really enjoyed it. Emily's a great character who is well performed, the story is much more coherent than the first one and Emily's new powers are pretty fun. I love the setting, the soundtrack and the graphics have improved so much from the previous game, while retaining its "painting" like presentation. Overall, it's a really good stealth game. It's quite lengthy too, taking me over seventeen hours to finish... but I'm sure more experienced players could probably knock it off quicker?

I did experience some bugs though... in the Dust District level, it happened at least five times in the same area where I would just randomly fall through the floor, the game glitches out and then I die. I also noticed to never quick save or save in general when standing on a balcony railing or anything narrow. Whenever I loaded my game from that point, I would always fall down straight away. Sometimes on rare occasion when using Emily's Shadow Walk power, I would knock people out but for some reason, they were dead instead.

Aside from those bugs... it's really good. I'm looking forward to replaying the game as the previous protagonist, Corvo. I'm unsure if I should just put this game aside and go back to previous games I have, though.

Everyone is making me want Dishonoured 2...I may have to place it on my christmas list!

Well, Rayman Legends gentelmen...the Daily and Weekly Challenges...

A bronze medal gets you 1 point.
A silver medal gets you 5 points.
A gold medal gets you 10 points.
And a platinum gets you 50 points (top 10% in the world...I didn't grab this once)

You need 2000 points to get to the final level of awesomeness...the final trophy I needed to platinum Rayman Legends.
I only play at weekends, to ensure I dedicate time to studying, so with only 3 evenings at my disposal, unless I platinum trophy something... 50 points is obtainable every weekend.

After OVER A YEAR....I finally got this trophy last night (I knew my weekly challenge would unlock last night so I had to log on!)....

Rayman Legends....PLATINUMED!!!

Titanfall 2 - 8.5 / 10

I've been home all of this week from work, sick with a very nasty strain of the flu. So aside from sleeping and drinking water, I've been playing video games.

I picked up TItanfall 2 on the PSN as it had a massive discount (43% off). I finished the single player campaign in... probably six or so hours in total. I reckon it's length is probably five to eight hours, depending on how good you are and the difficulty you're playing. Controls are tight (very CoD-like), playing in a Titan is fun, graphics are great and it runs at a smooth 60FPS almost all the time.

Despite being such a short ride (I was disappointed by the game's length), the single player campaign was actually really good. A good story and a really cool connection between Cooper (the protagonist and pilot) and his Titan, BT-7274, AKA BT. The game is really fun and it's one of those stories that gets better as you play more, TItanfall 2 has a really awesome, epic finale.

I've been playing multiplayer and while it is fun, it's a bit hit and miss. Some games, our team will completely dominate, some games, I don't stand a chance. Considering the game was released around the same period as Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, there aren't that many players... I see around seven to ten thousand people online, with about a hundred or so in my region.

While multiplayer is fun, I dunno how long it'll hold my interest. I'm glad I got this game for such a heavily discounted price.

I've finished the first season of the new Hitman game and I also finished the latest episodes of Batman: The Telltale Series. I'll start with Batman.

Really enjoying the story and I can't wait for the fifth and final episode. Unfortunately, a pleasant surprise in the story of episode four was partially spoiled for me, as another gaming website blatantly had the spoiler in its article tag line and thumbnail, essentially making it unavoidable. Regardless, I think the story is great, but I do find some of the animation to be a bit jerky and some awkward frame rate drops.

I've finished episode six of Hitman and thus have finished season one. The final episode was quite challenging at first, but once you figure out ways to stealthily eliminate your targets, you'll realize that it was actually really easy. If you knew what you were doing, you could easily speed run this level.

Since I've almost finished Rise of the Tomb Raider, I'll probably try and sweep that off my pile of shame this weekend so I can start fresh with Final Fantasy XV this coming Tuesday.

Rise of the Tomb Raider - 7.5 / 10

I finished Rise of the Tomb Raider last night, finally.

It was okay, but unfortunately it wasn't as good as I was hoping it to be. I was actually pretty disappointed, maybe I hyped it up too much in my head, since I adored the 2013 reboot so much.

Uninteresting characters, a boring story, an environment that seems extremely samey (I know it's based in a snow environment, but similar games will change environment and setting as a way of story progression and thus don't get boring). While I found the combat and game play so much fun in the previous game, this time it felt repetitive, almost like a chore. I also didn't like the upgrading system when compared to the last game's much simpler and easier version. The game looks great and has a cool soundtrack, at the very least. The game has plenty of content too, so that's a plus.

In the final chapter of the game, I experienced a lot of bugs that would halt my progression. For every bug I encountered, the only way to fix it was to reload my game from my last checkpoint. The final chapter was very frustrating.

I'm glad this one is out of my pile of shame, making me clear for Final Fantasy XV!

Final Fantasy XV - 9 / 10

Finished Final Fantasy XV for PS4 last night. Clocked in just over sixty hours of game time.

I heard the main story is "short" and can be finished in twenty to thirty hours, but if you take your time with it and do some side quests (the hunter's quests are pretty fun), you'll get a lot more life out of it.

Despite its flaws, I really enjoyed it. It's certainly the best Final Fantasy I've ever played. Graphically it looks amazing, the open environments are awesome, I loved the soundtrack, the Bro-Force is likeable and the combat system is really fun. Some of the writing and story are a bit confusing and questionable, but overall I had lots of fun with this game, hence why I'm giving it a 9 out of 10.

Final Fantasy is unfortunately never perfect. My biggest problem with the game is about half way through, or perhaps just over, the game becomes extremely linear and very point A to point B. The beginning half is open world, you can explore a massive land, do side quests, explore dungeons/caves and completely ignore the main story... but then, the second half of the game just loses this sandbox element and becomes very direct.

Without spoiling too much, chapter thirteen is notorious on the Internet for being the worst chapter of the game. When I played and experienced chapter thirteen for myself, it's very clear to see why... it's really, really shit, to say the least. I hated this chapter and did everything I could to get through it as fast as possible.

The game has plenty of post-game content as well, which is awesome, so I'll be spending some more time playing this one.

My partner has bought me a "surprise" birthday present which... I know because I saw her pick it off from the shelf before she told me "You saw nothing". Next up I'll be playing The Last Guardian. :)

I should also return to Telltales' Batman, as I now have the fifth and final episode.

You need to tell her that doesn't work unless she raises two fingers and waves her hand from left to right. Also, she should finish the command with, "Move along."
