Why is Will Smith's kid and Jackie Chan in The Karate Kid?

uh oh. I gotta agree with Intotherain. Why did the original fanboy choose Star Wars, anyway?
Of course the movies, but merchandising had a hand in its success as well.

So had Francis Ford Coppola pasted Marlon Brando's image on a lunchbox tin, we would've been dressing up in black suits doing Don Corleone cosplay at the Sheraton Hotel (June 4 - 6).

On the other hand that would've made The Godfather extremely gay, so someone chose Star Wars for the better good I suppose.

A Wizard of Oz remake, and do it for the druggies plz.

Actually, there is a remake of The Godfather in the works. Shia Labeouf will be playing Michael Corleone and Kevin James will play Don Corleone.

Also, expect a remake of The Wizard of Oz directed by Michael Bay...

You haven't even seen the trailers, have you? Chan is Mr. Myagi, he teaches Mini Smith Kung Fu

Chan is actually not Mr. Myagi at all. It is a different character all together.

Also, Intotherain, it is ok to come to terms with the fact that you are indeed awful. The sooner the better.

Just saw this. Pretty awesome. Should have been called The Kung Fu Kid, but they probably just reused the name so more people would be interested.

I had a problem with some of the acting and the fact that you never see any blood, but the story was great.

I saw this movie last night.
And I could see parts where they were paying tribute to the 80's movie.
But making it into a movie about Kung Fu, and if I am not mistaking the Kid is a Kid, not a 15-year-old or so.
He looks like he is 10 or so. He is supposed to be 12.
Way too young in my opinion.

Then there is the fighting, the 80's movie was great because it was low budget, and it was a classic theme.
This movie had some fighting scenes that looked completely unreal, or atleast improbable, with slow motion and jumps that would been The Matrix worthy.

I have nothing against Jackie Chans acting in this movie, but still calling this Karate Kid makes it a weird movie to watch.
