Not just medical marijuana though. Watch Colorado's population spike. I don't think those electoral votes will ever go Red again.

so either you're happy equality and justice prevailed, or upset that you're country is now heading the way of socialism and Communism

either way congrats.. I guess? why does your election process take 2 fucking years, is it because it involves counting?

I'm glad Obama won. I took a glance at the US map when they were showing red and blue states and it looked like Red was dominating. I don't understand how Obama won, I guess it was close?

Either way, congrats to the 51% of Americans with a brain.

I completely agree about campaign length. The Prime Minister campaign usually doesn't run anymore than a month or two right? That would be nice.

even then its only discussed and analyzed for 2 weeks

To be fair, Canada has a population of five thousand people, so everyone already knows the prime minister personally.

Electoral college means some states are "worth more" than others. If you win the popular vote in a state you win all of those electoral votes. That's why states like Florida are such a big deal. 29 electoral votes in that one state, while states like montana are worth like 3.

I agree. The length of this presidential campaign, especially if you've been following since the early republican primaries, was ABSURD. The amount of money spent on this bull shit should be criminal.

California.

Canadians are all "It's great that you care about American politics, but can you pay more attention to Canadian politics now?" And I agree, but at the same time, American politics can fuck up so much more shit, you know? So it is a bit more important. All the same, we're getting majorly shafted right now with PM Turtleneck in the sky. Curse his cotton socks.

Yeah, it was somewhat close in terms of popular vote. BO only won the popular vote by about 3 million votes.

And yeah, there is a whole lot of red in the middle of the country, but as it stands now (without Florida) BO won more states than Mitt did - 25+DC compared to Mitt's 24.

This is 100% fact. I knew Wicked well before the forums.

Short, simplified answer: Those blue states you see on a map are (mostly) densely populated, urbanized states. Those red states you see on a map are (mostly) sparsely populated, rural states, in many cases, with more hoofed mammals than people.

And ungulates don't vote.

It's true. Also Rain and I are neighbours, Wes is my plumber, Icepick supplies us all with Kraft dinner, Sightless works at the Tim Hortons near me, daverabbit is my hunting buddy when we go kill bears and now BlackStar videotapes all the hockey games for us to watch on TV.

WL speaks the truth, me and sightless supplying coffee and kraft dinner actually makes up for 65% of Canada's economy

That can't be true... none of you are french or know french guy! I know that cause you all pick on me :(

The crazy thing about it to me is that it is all for such a small slice of the population. That thing Mitt said about the 47% was off about the reasons but the numbers are always the same. Every election 45-47% of the population will vote Dem no matter what and the other 45-47% will vote Rep no matter what.

So all that time, money, ads, campaigning, debates, the endless tv coverage, is to sway that tiny bit of leftovers know as "undecided" as they are the ones who will swing the election in your favor. It's enough of a difference to swing a county in your favor and put you over the top winning you the state and the electoral votes that go with it.

The money spent is another issue and I will think you will see that change next election. If you ever read the book "Freakenomics" you will know the author (can't recall his name but he is an economist) had a section about money and politics and after going through the numbers came to the conclusion that while money can buy you some influence, you simply cannot buy an election regardless of the amount of money you throw at it.

After looking at how Karl Rove's super PAC spent 300 million on various elections and lost all but one of them (A 1% return on investment that his billionaire investors must be thrilled about) you see how accurate that economist turned out to be. I think those big spenders will be much more reluctant to dish out such large sums of money in the future only to have next to nothing to show for it.

Anyway, it's been kind of funny to watch all the post election analysis going on especially on the losing side only because (as has been said by others) watching the hypocrisy of the party of "personal responsibility" blame everything and everyone else for their failures except themselves is pretty amusing.

Honestly, if Romney had won, all those conservatives would run out of things to complain about. Now they can keep going on about how America is dead and minorities are taking over and there are more takers than makers and we all just want free government handouts for four more years.
