Game Revolutions Top 100 games of all time

All the games are ridiculously good now - I actually want to play them all, especially FF9 because i love BLACK MOTHER FUCKING MAGES!!

It's a shame Fatal Frame is so low but what can ya do? I'm glad that SH 1 and 2 aren't in the bottom half of the list. I wonder where mc is? Surely he'd be interested to see where the games wind up.

Thanks for all the support guys, we're half way there!

Okami
(PS2)

okamicoveroriginalkq5.jpg

Released as a Sony Playstation 2 game, Okami was an action/adventure that was very different to what we usually see. You are the sun god, Amaterasu, reincarnated in wolf form. The world is in chaos of a highly dark presence, its name being unknown, however the evil is very much known! Your little friend Issun would be your companion, and with him he brings you the Celestial Brush. A tool giving you an innovative array of powers, from blossoming trees, to conjuring up cherry bombs - and even creating lillypads so "Ammy" can travel on water. With an original art form, a fantastic soundtrack, creative worlds and colours, and at least 40 hours of gameplay - Okami brings to life one of the greatest adventures I've come across. So good, it got re-released on the Nintendo Wii.

Banjo-Kazooie

Platformers are now all but extinct, but it is very rare to see a platformer exceed the wild expectations and help redefine a genre. While Mario 64 gets most of the credit for it, Banjo-Kazooie truly perfected it. With 9 sprawling worlds, catchy music, deep combat and a witty storyline, Banjo-Kazooie is perhaps the best game you never heard of, but it is still one of the best games ever made.

Diablo 2

You don't own Diablo 2, D2 owns you. The hero from D1 has become possessed by the lord of terror, and is trying to free his brothers to destroy mankind (that old chestnut). 8 years have passed since the dropping of D2 and people are still playing it with as much fervor as ever. I knew a guy that payed the bills from selling D2 items; I knew a girl that used her charms to get free loot. D2 players come in all shapes and sizes, whether your griefed as many people as possible or played alone, you cannot deny the power it had over your life. I literally spent entire weeks killing the last boss over and over again just for loot, little pictures on my screen. I'm almost ashamed of my D2 days for how much it controlled me, with the recent announcement of D3 on the way; my soul continues to be in limbo.

Resident Evil Remake
(GCN)

When the original Resident Evil hit store shelves back in the late 1990s it changed the way we played our games. It may not have been the first survival horror title but it broke into mainstream mold with it's great visuals, creepy atmosphere, genuinely scary moments and good action not to mention top notch sound effects and...Horrible voice acting? Yes, even that went down in the history books.

So why remake something already so great? When it's as good as the Resident Evil Remake, you really don't need a reason but in case you do, here it is - All of the above mentioned qualities of the original are updated, reinvented and improved upon. The visuals, even by today's standards are considerably well done. The scares are back and more intense than ever, the sound is still top notch but the voice acting...Well, now it's actually good. To top it all off with a nice little cherry the folks over at Capcom decided to add in new content to further the story and gameplay, not to mention the replayability.

Whether you choose to play through the game as S.T.A.R.S members Jill Valentine or Chris Redfield and battle through an eerie mansion full of flesh eating zombies, dogs, giant spiders and other scary monsters and super freaks won't matter because chances are you'll be taking a midnight tour through Resident Evil more than once.

Final Fantasy Tactics
(PS1)

coversfftntscfrontgh5.jpg

A brief departure from the party-based Final Fantasies of old, Final Fantasy Tactics took the player from the dungeon to the battlefield in an epic squad-based strategy game. Commanding Ramza and his cute little 2D sprite warrior friends, the player was sent on an adventure to the land of Ivalice where they participate in recruiting squadmates and fighting wars of religion and rebellion. The Job System is the real star of the show, making every character's abilities customizable and every playthrough different than the last. Oh, hey, don't forget the BLACK MOTHERFUCKING MAGES!

Tactical action and survival horror thrust gamers into a deep story on mankind’s survival against the Locust Horde, a nightmarish race of creatures that surface from the bowels of the planet. A revolutionary combat system and breathtaking, high-definition visuals from the Unreal Engine 3 immerse ranked high with gamers and many are conquering the sequel as we speak. Gears of War has stunned us all and for that reason alone it ranks at #45.

The brain child of some of the biggest names in RPG making, Chrono Trigger was an amalgam of ideas that turned into perhaps the greatest RPG experience ever conceived. Real time combat, a clever story, fantastic worlds (thanks to the time traveling device) and some of the most memorable characters for an RPG ever, like the lovely Marle and the courageous Frog. Chrono Trigger is a must have for the Super Nintendo, and is a must play for gamers of every creed.

Guitar Hero may have opened doors for diversity in gaming. But the Wii blew the house down. Everyone was fascinated in the new Wii controls that took interactive gaming to a whole new level. And everybody’s first crack at Nintendo’s newest controls was Wii Sports. Players chose between 5 games; Tennis, Baseball, Bowling, Boxing and Golf. The simplicity and smooth controls made the game fun and easy to learn. Wii Sports turned the Wii into an all night party console. The game was so critically acclaimed, it even influenced film Director Steven Spielberg to create a Wii game of his own. Pretty impressive stuff.

Intense team-based multiplayer action is the name of the game in Counter-strike. Two thrilling game types are enjoyed online with people across the globe: Bomb Defusal and Hostage Rescue--via Xbox Live or System Link. Tetris

The Cold War may be officially over, but the Russian invasion is not, thanks to Tetris. A simple puzzle game that captured the minds of millions, thanks to a Russian developer, Alexi Pajinov, Tetris literally created a genre of video games. Games like Peggle, Bejewled, and Hexic would be nowhere without the mass appeal of their great grandfather, and the frantic pace and simplistic design really make Tetris one of the greatest games ever.

I'm so happy FFXI made it! And yes, 3 Final Fantasies within 10 spaces of each other is quite unexpected, with another in the next 10. Good to know they were consistent lol.

Man, I totally forgot about Banjo-Kazooie. Such a great game.

Thanks for all the nostalgia!

Ha, this may sound stupid of me, but I didnt know Tetris was Russian. And now that I think about it, the Tetris theme music was very Russian!

Cool stuff Ghost, keep it coming.

PS - only 2 final fantasies left...will one of them be number one?! :D I personally hope their both in the top ten.

Hopefully the real Counter-Strike is higher....The Xbox version is no where near as good of a game as the PC version.

And I've never actually played Banjo, so I may have to try it out on Xbox Arcade.

ZankerH said:
Counter-Strike on a console? :?

SERIOUSLY!!!!!!! you gotta include PC in there.

it mad much more of an impact on PC... almost on par with Half life. But.. RE, Gears of War, FF Tactics, its in good company so im not too upset.

Meh, I never played coutner-strike so I figured it was only on Xbox when I saw the pic.

And if you look at the points, you'll see a lot of games have a 3, 2 or even 1 point difference. That might explain why some people wonder how one game is slightly higher then another. This is mostly due to 37 people nominating over 400 games :p . I'm sure it would've been better if I got more nominations and I tried pretty hard, but some people just wouldn't do it and even called my PM's spam mail, ah well. As we get higher on the list, the point gap grows bigger.

Update is on it's way.

It's all good GhostTrip, some people it's in their nature to complain. I think you're doing a great job.
:D

Thanks Zoey, I'm not upset, just trying to clear up any confusion anyone might have.

Much like KOTOR, if you haven't heard of this gme you're living under a rock, sorry to say. With over 11 million subscribers to Blzizard's insanely popular MMORPG it's hard to argue against why it should be in the top 100 games of all time. The game does have it's flaws - Quite a few in fact - However one can easily overlook them when focusing on the positive aspects of this game. Numerous updates adding new content, a failry solid PvP system, two expansion packs, 80 levels, a player based auction hall and tons of factions to grind reputation with keep millions of players yearning for more and shelling out the cash for World of Warcrack...I mean Warcraft. While not the deepest MMO ever it is certainly one of, if not the most polished, well organized of the bunch which makes it an easy sell and a purchase worth making.

2007 was 66 years past the end of World War II, yet the video game community still insisted on making games in the familiar setting. Finally, in November of that year, Infinty Ward broke the mold and brought the traditional first-person shooter genre out of Nazi Europe and into the battlefields of present with Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. For better or worse, CoD4 brought all of the modern conveniences along with it - modern weapons, customizable kits, tight online play, beautiful graphics, outstanding sounds, paper-thin story, cliched villians, and scripted sequences. Plus you get to shoot dogs. With guns. So, yeah. Pretty cool.

If you don’t know who Sonic is, you don’t know what a video game is. The iconic hedgehog that bolted Sega into the mainstream made gamers proud to own a Genesis. His insane speed, cool soundtrack and unbelievable stunts propelled Sonic into this list. With a number of spin-offs, sequels and even a cartoon show, Sonic blasts his way into #38.

When the PS2 launched, it did mighty fine. So good that it killed the Dreamcast (may it RIP). However Microsoft was hovering in the distance and soon released the Xbox which featured some of the favorite games exclusive to the PS2. Sony realized they needed to come up with their own developed game so they could keep it all to themselves. And so they came up with God of War, the best action game on the PS2. If you haven’t played God of War, you’re missing out on one hell of a bloody good time. The plot is one of the finest in any action game you’ll find. The more you progress, more of the story’s prequel is told finally giving you a full scope of who Kratos truly is. God of War took every bad thing you could say about Sony and throw it out a window.

Link is back and he has a whole new look! People questioned the game at first due to its new "cartoony-style" that had been introduced. However, it did not change the already high expectations, and Wind Waker became yet another great legendary adventure. Link's little sister, Aryll, gets kidnapped at the beginning of the game by a colossal bird. Later finding out that there is much more than just a kidnapping going on - Ganandorf has returned! Seeking for that Triforce yet again. Link must sail the vast Great Sea in order to stop him from becoming an evil God! With amazingly smooth animation, light-hearted music arrangement, a fine mixture of unique characters, all moulded into an epic adventure - Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker becomes a fantastic journey for Link and yourself as the player.

Guitar Hero 3 features some awesome tracks to jam to and is an all around fun game to play. It’s got some wicked boss battles with Tom Morrello from Rage Against the Machine and Slash from GnR. It may not have drums or a singer like Rockband but it provides everything you love about Guitar Hero and continues to keep friends entertained for hours! Rock on!

After the huge success of Super Mario Bros 3, Mario was ready to take on the SNES. Super Mario World brought us a platforming adventure in a beautiful 16 bit, colourful world. It also introduced us to Yoshi, who soon became a hosehold name with his own spin-offs and even earned himself a place among the elite Nintendo crew alongside Donkey Kong and Toadstool.

Grand Theft Auto has always been a game of success and controversy. The same can be said about its latest installment. Its fans adore the series so much that even the idea of a GTA game on our current generation of gaming is enough to put it on the top 100. Start from the ground and work your way up, it might have been done before, but it doesn’t feel old. With every GTA game it gets harder and harder to top themselves, but they still manage to appeal to everyone. Even if crashing cars and beating hookers isn’t your thing, there is bound to be something you can enjoy in GTAIV.

This game has it all. A lengthy story mode, awesome gameplay, and the only game ever with Geno. When is Nintendo going to bring him back? Who knows, but what is for certain is that this game is incredible. Countless hours have been put into this game by everyone who has played it, even if it was only one time through. A milestone in gaming, and extremely deserving of a spot on this list.

Arg, only one in this set I'm really happy with is Super Mario World. I can see why the others all made it here, but personal vendetta's and such, you know the story.

Anyways, the anticipation is palpable :D

Assuming Eve Online doesn't show up on the rest of the list (in front of wow, that is), I'd just like to say this regarding your scoring system -

Quantity above quality.
