Comic Showdown Champions - Batman and The X-Men!!

If Batman wins I'll hate everyone who voted for him. I bet if the Dark Knight didn't come out, he'd have a much smaller chance of winning :p.
My vote for Batman is substantiated by my absolute hate for Wolverine. :p

As long as that's the case!

And I don't mind Batman at all. I just think Wolverine would fuck him up :p.

This is a good outcome either way. I'll go for Wolverine to even things out a little. Plus this is a comic showdown so the movies don't count.

Wolverine.

Wolverine.

I think the movie's count quite a bit, since the movies can directly effect the comics. But if you want into comic terms, Batman has way more awesomeness. Wolverine has been formatted more and more into nothing but a Bruting "Badass".

Batman's parents are DEAD! He snaps a little and that makes him turn into a vigilante. Which in turn brings out all the other crazys who have no regard for human life which make batman's rule about no guns and Gordan's by the book prosecution even harder to do. In lameness terms; Batman kicks Wolverine's ass

Edit: I don't hate Wolverine, just like Batman more.

I can't argue against Batman on any of those points. He's an awesome character and if he wins I have no issue with that. But Wolverine's got a lot going on too.

He leads a life of much physical pain. He gets beat on, heals, toutured, heals, stabbed, heals. Everytime he heals his nerves grow back so he's never numb to the pain he feels every bit of it and of never ends because his body just heals and gets ready for more. The things he had to do in the weapon X program haunt him.

Hell everytime he pops those claws he feels them rip through his skin.

^^ that's why I'm diggin the Old Man Logan arc so much. It looks like he's finally losing this regenerative powers in his old age (what is he now, around 200 years old? he was already over 80 year old in 1990)

I always felt Wolverine was overrated, mainly because they put a cool power on him and his troubled past, while a near epitome of the entire cause of the X-Men, seems so tacky.

I always compared Wolverine to Beast, because Wolverine's mutant powers make him cursed mentally, Beats mutant powers curse him physically. Beast is always insecure and introverted, while Wolverine has been aggressive because of his demons. Beast, although brilliant, is always unsure of himself, Wolverine is unsure of himself, even though he is aggressive and skilled at what he does.

But what edges Beast for me is the fact that he can't hide himself like Logan can. Physical looks are his mental block, while Logan's block is a cerebral one; one that haunts him because of his past and is a classic case of self anger and redemption, something that is a good story but played out so much. Beast's story is more, well, human, to me.

But I digress.

The Bat.

And it's not just because The Dark Knight was freaking awesome. Batman has always been my favorite superhero, even when there was just Adam West. In fact, I would probably vote Adam West over Wolverine.

It's hard to 'blame' Marvel on Wolverine's cliches when they literally wrote the book on just what a cliche is (plus a lot of movies have taken their ideas from these comics and if there's one thing Hollywood knows, it's how to be cliche). Who knew comics would turn into movies and become big enough to touch on so many issues, you know?

I wonder if someone in Marvel planned (and penned) his story out long ago (someone like Stan Lee), and knew to give it away bit by bit, year by year (even decade) to keep his character fresh because, yes, he's pretty cliche on face value alone, like an 80s Hulk Hogan waving an American flag.

His Origins story fleshes out that mysterious past that the 70s writers didn't (didn't want to yet?) explain.
Old Man Logan tells of his life 50 years after the Civil War arc where he seems to be losing his edge.
Ultimate Origins goes on to say that Logan is 'Mutant Zero', and the sole reason mutants exist in the Marvel Universe in the first place.

You have your beginnings, middles and ends right there in those 3 arcs. A little over 10 years ago, nobody knew crap jack about Logan's past. They also probably noticed the potential in Wolverine even early on, so no need to rush his awesomeness when his is one that ages better with time.

So why then all of this explanation all of the sudden? Well Marvel didn't want anything said in the Wolverine movie to be taken as canon so they went ahead and fleshed it all out themselves.

Beast is what more comic book characters would be had their universe not been built upon the now cliche Cold War era. That's what the 'X-men' were all about in the beginning -- the differences between humans (usa) and mutants (non-usa beliefs) of that time.

Edit: wtf my link changed to a porn website? ... not funny. lol abuse of power

Isen't this the same match from last year?

the last one was a couple of years ago, the end match being Batman vs Green Lantern, which the bat won.

since votes (and debate) still seem to be going strong ill leave this running until tomorrow afternoon. if anyones keeping score, right now its Batman in the lead by one point at 9 to 8.
