Hello, and welcome to the Sixth annual GR Gamepost Video Game Showdown. First I'd like to apologize for being...four months late, or something or other. I'm in college now, and wasn't really coming to GR at that point, so I never got around to starting it. However, my idea on how to run a new showdown is still saved on a wordpad file in my computer, and I don't intend to let it go to waste.
Now, for those of you unfamiliar with how things work around here, this is a deep rooted tradition in Gamepost history. Previous winners include...
2006: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
2005: Metal Gear Solid
2004: Final Fantasy VII
2003: Grand Theft Auto III
2002: Half Life
The showdown system has changed over the years, and I intend to bring yet another change this year. This time, the showdown will be run very similar to the way NCAA basketball is run.
Every day there are a plethora of matches, pitting game VS. game, with people voting for the games they like better, and then after 24 hours we have new matches. However, games do not get eliminated for losing a match or even two matches, like in the past. If a game loses a match, it simply scores a 'loss' and draws another match in the next few days. This goes on for several months, games never getting eliminated, until a set number of matches for each game has been reached.
Then we take a leaf out of the book of NCAA football, and based on 'regular' season performances, put the games into fifteen different bowl 'games', and then host the matches over the next 15 days, working up to the championship match.
The games have been broken up into ten different divisions of eight games. 8 of these divisions are made up from the top 64 games in the recent 'top 100 list' I did several months back. The #1 game is the #1 seed in the first division, the #2 game is the #1 seed in the 2nd division, and so on until the 64th game is the #8 seed in the last division.
The other 2 divisions are made up of games that have come out recently that weren't given the chance to make the list, yet likely would have if given the chance, and games on the top 100 list in the low range, plus a few I think should be given a shot.
There are also two other divisions made up of games that made the list, but ranked rather low. These two divisions make up the a sort of 'Divison I-AA' for our 'league'. These two divisions have their own small league of games that are only somewhat popular, and every year games that do well in this league have the opportunity to move up into the 'big leagues', making way for more games for the little league. This continues ad infinitum in theory.
Wins, losses, points for, points against, interdivisonial records, and other stats are kept track of, and at the end awards our handed out, the bowls are played, and we'll have our champion.

I'm kinda making this up as a go, so that site doesn't have alot of info yet...and if anyone is willing to help me out on this project, lemme know, I could use it, I'm going to college now. And remember, if you can't help me directly, this showdown is fueled by votes. You can help by simply voting.
However, I encourage everyone to at least know what they're voting for and against in matches. I can't enforce any rules of this nature, but it's something to keep in mind. I'm not saying you should play the game first, but it'd be good to at least know what we're dealing with.
