Best movies of the year nominations!

Wow, I can't believe we are heading towards the end of 2014. But once again it is time to take a look back at some of our favorite films of the year! This year was actually pretty damn incredibly incredibe when it came to movies so I've changed things up a bit this year. I normally ask you all to nominate 5 movies but this year you can post your own top 10!

The ranking system is still the same. Your #1 pick will recieve 10 points and will decrease to your #10 pick which will receive 1 point. The ten movies with the highest points will be ranked some time early January. Like always you have plenty of time to nominate so there is no rush.

Now if you're like me it is pretty hard to keep track of all the amazing films that came out this year. So here is a refresher of the highest rated films of 2014 ranked by Rotten Tomatoes.

And if popcorn flicks are more your thing then here are the highest grossing movies of 2014

I didn't see all the best films this year, but I included the ones I did in order of preference.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier
X-Men: Days of Future Past
The Lego Movie
Interstellar
Godzilla
The Amazing Spider-Man 2
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Transformers: Age of Extinction

These are my top ten movies of the year. Granted, I haven't actually seen that many movies this year. To tell you the truth, the first eight movies on my list I quite enjoyed, however the last two on my list (nine and ten) I only put down because well... I didn't enjoy them that much, but I figured I needed to fill the list.

Edit: Changing/editing my list slightly.

1 - Guardians of the Galaxy
2 - X-Men: Days of Future Past

9- Transcendence
10- John Wick

Honorable Mentions:
- Maze Runner
- Neighbors
- Lucy
- Godzilla
- Whitey (Documentary about Whitey Bulger),
- Dawn of The Planet of the Apes

A lot of films came out that I had marked to "Must Watch", but for one reason or another I never made it out to see them.

Have not seen but have high hopes for: The Signal, The Hobbit, The Grand Hotel Budapest, Locke, X-Men - Days of Future past, Box Trolls, Fury, Big Hero 6, Gone Girl, Life of a King,

Based on my top 10 - should I skip some of the ones listed above? Like x-men, Big hero 6, and Box Trolls, are probably great, but I was going to wait for DVD or Netflix. Also, TMNT?!?!

Days of Future Past was the best X-Men movie yet (IMO). You should see it man. Also Grand Budapest was one of Anderson's best films.

I didn't see many movies this year, and some of the ones I did see really let me down so I'll vote for the only movie I'd personally suggest to another person

Guardians of the Galaxy

everything else came with strings attached

Spoiler alert! Guardians of the Galaxy is going to be this year's winner.

I've seen an embarrassingly slim number of movies this year (full time grad student all year) but I'm sure I can squeeze an extra one or two in before the end of the year. I'll have my list up by then, and in the mean time I look forward to everyone else's lists.

I forgot about the Edge of Tomorrow. That was a great movie. Glad to see Urban posted it already.
I'm just now watching the Bourne trilogy, so yeah...ask me in 5 years and maybe I'll say St. Vincent or John Wick.

1.) Grand Budapest Hotel

The rest doesn't matter - although Birdman would probably be there if I had seen it.

these topics are always so hard for me because i forget what movies are 2014... i feel like some of these movies, like Man of Steel, were released in like 2012.

will come up with something and edit this post shortly!

Ok so top ten...

10. Big Hero 6
9. Maleficent
8. The Lego Movie
7. Captain America: Winter Soldier
6. Birdman
5. X-Men: Days of Futures Past
4. Edge of Tomorrow
3. The Hobbit: Battle of Five Armies
2. Boyhood
1. Guardians of the Galaxy

I seriously saw too many comic book superhero movies this year, but they are all pretty good for once.

I did like it a lot. Had good drama, promised the battle of Five Armies and basically delivered, and it was actually quick, despite being a movie that was two hours. Almost forty minutes of it was the entire battle, which was done in sections and in terms of spectacle matched the battles seen at Helms Deep and Minas Tirith.

I enjoyed the movie a lot.

Guardians
Capt America
Grand Budapest
Lego Movie
Chef
Big Hero 6
Edge of Tomorrow
Monuments Men
Wish I Was Here
Fox catcher

#1 The Grand Budapest Hotel
#2 Interstellar
#3 How to Train Your Dragon 2
#4 Edge of Tomorrow

Can't believe how little I've seen this year.. ... need to catch up
