YouTubers - Do you watch and follow?

Hey guys.

Does anyone here watch/follow any particular YouTubers? If so, why do you watch and follow them? Have you stopped watching any particular YouTubers for any reasons?

The reason I ask is because one day, I'd like to try and start my own YouTube channel about drawing, comics, maybe cartoons, games and so forth. Maybe one day. I'd like to know what appeals to you on YouTube.

Personally I don't follow many YouTubers. I used to follow this one fella, Elliot Hulse of Strength Camp. He made great videos about exercise, athletic lifting, power lifting etc. and used to provide a lot of helpful advice in his "Yo Elliot!" videos. Now when he makes videos (which is very rare), they tend to just be... I dunno, not very helpful, overly philosophical kinda stuff. He seems more interested in selling his products and he seems a bit contradictory as of late.

I don't "follow" these YouTubers per say, but I do watch their works from time to time and I enjoy them. I like the gaming/special effects videos of Freddie Wong, they're pretty cool and while the humour can be a bit hit and miss, I do enjoy the "How It Should Have Ended" cartoons.

What do you guys like?

I watch:

Pewdiepie

VanosGaming

Cryaotic

Linus tech tips

Sharla in Japan

Texan in Tokyo

Rachel and Jun

Equals 3

My drunk Kitchen

Pet Ranch!

I honestly don't have time for more. I even watch some sped up.

Youtubers I have stopped watching over time.
Lacy Green for example before she went radfem.
Grace Helbig before she did the anti smoking commercials.
The Amazing Athiest.
and I'm sure others I just can't remember.

My girlfriend wants to start a youtube gaming channel together as an interracial couple. I told her I would think about it if it means she will buy me more games.

Apparently I'm subscribed to 15 channels, but I don't really follow any of them closely enough to, like, watch every video they publish. Having them saved in my subscriptions just kind of gives me a reminder of places to browse for content when I do hop on youtube.

The two channels I've watched the most from are Polygon (mostly for their Overviews and/or anything with the McElroy brothers) and Steve Ramsey (Woodworking for Mere Mortals).

I follow almost all of the Normal Boots and Hidden Block crowd and their associates. They're mostly young and extremely talented people, namely:

PBG - https://www.youtube.com/user/PeanutButterGamer

JonTron - https://www.youtube.com/user/JonTronShow

ProJared - https://www.youtube.com/user/DMJared

MinutePhysics - https://www.youtube.com/user/minutephysics

Planet Destiny - https://www.youtube.com/user/PlanetDestiny

Mr. Fruit Gaming Channel - https://www.youtube.com/user/MyMisterFruit

I think that's it. There's others that I watch off-and-on. Even a few on the list aren't very often, but I've followed them for a while.

My favourites are Playstation Access and Outsidexbox at the moment.

I've been following LetsPlay and the achievement hunter guys for ages, but they're getting kind of stale now.

I've tried my own Youtube channel...MattyJBarney check it out ;) ...but didnt really work. Mostly because EVERYONE is doing it. But I thought why not - it's free to try. And it is quite fun to make, you get a giddyness when you see your own content on Youtube.

I'm not sure if it is a generational gap thing or what, but I don't get the whole youtube personality phenomenon. I don't watch any and don't have any desire to.

My son on the other hand, spends more time watching youtube videos of various personalities playing minecraft than he does actually playing the game.

Personally, I don't get it, but I don't say anything.

Craig, if you haven't, check out Alan Thrall, I think his channel is a lot better than Elliot's. Brosciencelife is a lot better too, but that's for other reasons.

I don't really follow anyone on YouTube, every once in a while I'll see if some of my favorites have new videos though.

CGP Grey has the best channel probably though.

I'd totally watch it. It's fascinating to me seeing a drawing come together. Most of the time it's a time lapse video. It's gets pretty wild when I see speed artists.

I'm subscribed to many channels for gaming news reasons. PlayStation's, Nintendo etc. Most of the channels I subscribe to, I really don't follow them on social networks (besides gaming related) There are channels I would like to mention here I subscribe to that is art to me.

Pellek - His vocals are amazing! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35CyzJDu-M8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_Tl32FMygU

AWE me - I subscribed to them mainly for the Man At Arms videos. Used to be Tony Swatton, but now it's the Stagmer brothers of Baltimore: Knife and Sword. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tECbp4OTbIc There are other DIY projects done on this channel

Lindsey Stirling - Mainly for the fact she has done video game music in the past https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3KUyPKbR7Q but I enjoy the sound of a violin.

Of course, if any of you have a YouTube channel, I'm subscribed to you. I know I'm subscribed to Urban's (so many) channels, MattAY's and De-Tings.

I think the major difference is that you can't go out and play professional level sports whenever you want, whereas if you own a game and you watch someone play it you could instead just play it.

Though the main reason people watch Lets Plays isn't for the game, it's for the entertainer. But like 95% of the entertainers aren't funny, so I still don't get it.

I especially don't get why children like them so much, but they do. I would play D&D at this guy's house and his two little (under 5) children would spend like half their time watching Lets Plays on the computer, and the other half watching them on their tablets.

Why being over-exaggeratedly frightened at everything is so entertaining to small children, I will never understand.

I hate you.

Anyway, here are the youtubers I am subscribed to:

Swordless Link - I like watching him play games by exploiting a fuck ton of glitches
TheiBookGuy - His explanations of electronics and how they work is amazing
Robbaz - He is funny as hell and amazing at the games he play
Handmade Hero - A guy programming his own video game from scratch on Twitch/Youtube
Numberphile- Cuz Im a math nerd.
ralfidude - He plays flight sims (mostly DCS) and is absolutely amazing at it. Like really, the only guys I have seen in DCS that are as better than him are/were military pilots in real life.
Scott Manley - A smart guy who plays a lot of space video games. I only watch him for his aerodynamics and space-related ramblings.

I have learned the hard way not to buy games simply because they look cool when he plays them.
Makes everything look so goddamn easy.

Robbaz is that DUDE

Okay everyone, I need you all to watch this pilot episode to a new series from Ahoy. The creator, Stu Brown, is one of the single most talented content creators on YouTube, and he simply doesn't get enough recognition for it. He expertly mixes topics into amazing videos that all have something to do with video games.

Just watch and see for yourself:

Truth be told, most of the ones mentioned are overrated or really terrible.

I want more out of my entertainment as of late.

The only one I have been watching semi-consistently is Game Sack, mainly because of the game showcase format they keep doing vs their actual "reviews" (which are not that impressive) but it's a good showcase sometimes. The information they present is decent, and I like how they actually show off good and bad games and (most of the time) are able to show off stuff I have not even heard of, which helps me and my series. Their jokes suck but ive yet to find someone actually funny.

Here is an example episode.
