Total Annihilation sucks

I've been playing the Total Annihilation, and I think that it's nothing more than than an RTS where the only tactics is to out-number your opponents and use "rushing" strategies. Despite that, I keep seeing articles raving about Total Annihilation (IGN recently inducted it into it's "Top 100 Games List"). So i'm wondering if there's a problem with me, or if Total Annihilation is just some overrated game (like FFVII)? Can someone explain this to me?

well i haven't played it in years, but way back in the day, i really liked the game.

RTS games have come a long way since then. From memory, wasn't in the first 3D RTS? Your characters could walk up and down hills, and it affected their range etc. I never played it much though, I much prefered Starcraft at the time.
