I was intruiged as to why he does wear one, so I looked it up.
Apparently his character is based on "Tiger Mask" which is an anime character back in 1968, among other Mexican wrestlers. But they changed it to a Jaguar since, like you said, Jaguars are known to be in Mehico.

So he is basically just a luchador in a Jaguar mask...cool.

I vote King by the way.
