I guess I have to agree with Mod-Chip on this one. As most of us age well into adulthood, I guess it would make sense to have an adult, age restricted section. But it should still be heavily moderated - we don't need a 4chan porn board, thank you very much.

I don't think we need an 18+ section. The majority of us may be in our 20s and 30s, but GR just doesn't feel like the type of site that needs one of those.

We always talk about adult stuff anyway; the only purpose of an 'adults only' section would end up being nudity or porn and we can get that elsewhere.

I think what I'll do is go over the Terms of Service of these boards and see if there exists a possibility of creating a dedicated 18+ forum. If so, I'll draft an open letter to the mods/admins topic and see if such an idea may lift off.

Considering that everyone who has replied to this topic is of age, I'm convinced that there will at least be some interest in the creation of another forum, ergo justifying its use-value. I would also not be against a "trial period" of 60 days to determine its success.

I'm not at all miffed by that--by contrary, I'm glad that it revealed an opportunity to expand the discursive horizons of these boards.

Myself, and others like me will utilize it to post offensive, questionable material, until eventually one of us has to be banned, than the call for a "unrated" board begins, and slowly we sink down to 4chan levels

An 18+ forum does not imply that there wouldn't be any rules; if anything, rules pertaining to civil dialogue should be taken more seriously, and rules made more enforceable. The point of this forum wouldn't be to create a puking ground for all the nasty in the world, but rather a space where sensitive/adult topics could be explored without being encumbered by the 13-year old rule.
