And this is why, my friend, I'm campaigning for a section with an age-prompt that acts as a filter. I am completely aware of the utility behind rules and regulations as they pertain to the public access of content, and wholly agree that they are necessary to prevent what MattAY deems a 4chan scenario.
Fair enough.
Your qualifiers here are a little uninformed. Human? Barbaric? Frat-boys?
I should've elaborated this further, but it isn't as offensive as it sounds. While you may be none of the above, when arguing in favor of 'civil debate and mature discussion', you generally don't make a topic about 'gang banging'. Slang isn't used, and it isn't presented in a manner that indicative of bragging... usually. I do apologize if you were offended, though.
Are you suggesting that the content matter of a topic acts as a determinant of the maturity of discourse with respect to it? If I wanted to talk about, let's say tamagochis, who's to say that I won't approach the subject from a cultural standpoint? Or perhaps a sociological one?
It is entirely possible to talk about sex, drugs, and everything in between in a civil, mature, and analytical manner. However, when throwing topics out there for this kind of discussion, usually care is taken to limit it to small parties, and not in a public place. This is because the vast majority of people cannot approach the subject without degrading into immature posturing, personal bragging, or just flat-out being offensive. It is the internet, maturity just doesn't work.
Look at most of the topics on GR, we aren't exactly the most mature crowd around. I'm certainly not.
I'm a feminist, and whole-heartedly agree that the objectification of women vis-a-vis a long social history of male hegemony is not only sad and unjust, but also something that ails our modern society today. That being said, have you ever thought about a gangbang from a woman's perspective? More specifically, have you ever thought that there are women who actively participate in them for reasons beyond sexual gratification?
Entirely possible, again. I'm all for women wearing what they want, how they want. I don't care how short a woman's skirt gets, as long as she's happy wearing it. I don't care if they get breast augmentation, if they want it, and it's for the right reasons (as in, her choice, not suckered into it by the media). Being a transgendered male-to-female.. yes, yes I have thought about things from a woman's perspective. It is a sticky issue (see what I did there?), but open forums are not generally the place to discuss such things. Again, the internet as a whole is not mature, no matter how much we want it to be..
