Are there actually any 13 year olds here?

20 as well, younger than most of the old fogies that roam these parts and not the best looking of the bunch. And best taste is truly Mr. MegaTen_2_Tensei.

I'd say at best we have barely minors as the youngest, those who are on the verge of becoming legal. Drinkers.

Hmm, then how about creating a forum akin to subreddits where the user is greeted with a "are you older than 18 yay or nay?" prompt? That would take care of the legal ramifications of vestigial eyes.

And then I can post about all the gangbangers/lsd trips in the world!

Recently hit 16.

lol, I found this site....
how exactly did I....
Wait.

I REMEMBER.

1up.com ran a bullshit sweepstakes every week and never gave me my code, took me a couple of months to get it out of them. I won twice, actually.

I think it was Dan (via GR's twitter) who gave me a code, but it was for the 360 version of Black Ops. One thing lead to another and I now own your souls.

It's not 4chan Mod-Chip. We dont want a section for adult content just so people can post some porn. Because that's what it will turn into. And GR doesn't need it even a little bit.

And no offense buddy - about your gangbang, I dont think I'm alone when I say, I dont give a fuck.

In like mind, I hardly give a fuck about you.

What I'm saying is that, wouldn't it be more congenial, given the fact that the majority of active users are well above 18 years old, to have a section where we wouldn't violate the 13 year-old rule if the topics that we would be talking about are of "adult" nature.

And if you're afraid of that forum devolving into porn, then why not enforce that rule? Plus if someone's obsessed with porn, there's a dearth of websites they can enjoy.

I think its rather unfortunate to have a "Misc" section where you aren't allowed to share your stories with users you've known for over a decade.

I think it'd be different if you just posted that you have an interesting story about being in a gang bang, and if anyone wants to know, they can PM you.

That is a workaround, but a lot of the charm involved in messaging boards has to do with the synergy between users replying to each others' comments--with a PM method of communication it would disallow the possibility of a broader conversation.

Edit: And I should note that, while it was the gangbang thread that prompted this topic, it's the larger issue at hand that concerns me--that issue being that there exists a multiplicity of topics that are 18+, and to delimit them would also delimit the full potential of unfettered discussion.

I joined GR forums a month after my 13th birthday, now i'm 21. I remember my first week I had over 400 posts because of link56 and I spammed the hell out of the boards with quality posts so no one could complain, but i'm pretty sure we commented on every topic of the first page of every console board.

But Misc has always been my home, and despite the fact I havent posted here for shit in the past, oh, 4 years, GR was one of my top childhood memories. I'm pretty sure back then it was a much more high-school laden crowd. Now weve simply dissipated and gotten old. honestly, I didnt know GR had so many older posters nowdays...

I'm pretty sure after the GR takeover and layout change is when I left.

edit: damn, I still own over 5% of all GR posts...

A few things...

Do you openly discuss sex, and drugs in public, like a restaurant, where everyone can hear you? I'm not talking quietly, I'm talking at the top of your lungs. This would be the equivalent, when you post, it isn't just 'who you want to see it' that hears it, everyone does, even those who are just passing by (like lurkers or guests). It is the same thing as yelling in a restaurant, and the same rules apply here as they do there. It is a public space, technically, and is treated as such. If only people who signed up could see the topics, it'd be different.

It doesn't 'limit' conversation so much as keep the conversation to a human, and not barbaric, level. We aren't a bunch of frat-boys (Or sorority girls), we aren't 12 anymore. Who you scored with (I'm so 90s), what you smoked, or your LSD trip, doesn't matter to people here (for the most part).

Women are not objects to be bragged about, and sexual conquests aren't something most adults care about except man-children (of which, admittedly, there are a lot of in the gaming community).

These are not topics that need discussed in an open forum, and no, I'm not old fashioned either. It's just called being civil.

So how many 20 year olds are there here because as of right now i think I count 4, I think 5 though because if i remember right I think Longo is 20 also

And this is why, my friend, I'm campaigning for a section with an age-prompt that acts as a filter. I am completely aware of the utility behind rules and regulations as they pertain to the public access of content, and wholly agree that they are necessary to prevent what MattAY deems a 4chan scenario.

Your qualifiers here are a little uninformed. Human? Barbaric? Frat-boys?

Are you suggesting that the content matter of a topic acts as a determinant of the maturity of discourse with respect to it? If I wanted to talk about, let's say tamagochis, who's to say that I won't approach the subject from a cultural standpoint? Or perhaps a sociological one?

Just because the topic at hand (in this case, gang banger) elicits a knee-jerk response of sexual deviationism and the social stigmas attached to it, why would you assume that the discourse it can engender will necessarily devolve into what you deem "barbaric".

I'm a feminist, and whole-heartedly agree that the objectification of women vis-a-vis a long social history of male hegemony is not only sad and unjust, but also something that ails our modern society today. That being said, have you ever thought about a gangbang from a woman's perspective? More specifically, have you ever thought that there are women who actively participate in them for reasons beyond sexual gratification?

Of course you haven't, because you're still pigeonholed by mainstream leftist attitudes in regards to the spectrum of sexual experiences.

Which makes you somewhat old-fashioned in my book

Fair enough.

I should've elaborated this further, but it isn't as offensive as it sounds. While you may be none of the above, when arguing in favor of 'civil debate and mature discussion', you generally don't make a topic about 'gang banging'. Slang isn't used, and it isn't presented in a manner that indicative of bragging... usually. I do apologize if you were offended, though.

It is entirely possible to talk about sex, drugs, and everything in between in a civil, mature, and analytical manner. However, when throwing topics out there for this kind of discussion, usually care is taken to limit it to small parties, and not in a public place. This is because the vast majority of people cannot approach the subject without degrading into immature posturing, personal bragging, or just flat-out being offensive. It is the internet, maturity just doesn't work.

Look at most of the topics on GR, we aren't exactly the most mature crowd around. I'm certainly not.

Entirely possible, again. I'm all for women wearing what they want, how they want. I don't care how short a woman's skirt gets, as long as she's happy wearing it. I don't care if they get breast augmentation, if they want it, and it's for the right reasons (as in, her choice, not suckered into it by the media). Being a transgendered male-to-female.. yes, yes I have thought about things from a woman's perspective. It is a sticky issue (see what I did there?), but open forums are not generally the place to discuss such things. Again, the internet as a whole is not mature, no matter how much we want it to be..

This is...true. I guess I was being somewhat of an ageist when, upon discovering that the majority of active users here were "of age", I assumed that any topic was fair game. The more I think about it, the more I'm starting to realize that the ethos of GR isn't exactly tailored to adult discussions. I mean they're gaming forums for Christ's sake. Which is why Misc. seemed like an amenable option, albeit it too is bound by "playground-safe" rules.

Which is why filtering and dedicated sections are key.

I guess this really boils down to whether an age-restricted section is appropriate for these gaming forums...though a part of me is convinced that 99% of these boards' activity happens in Misc., which incidentally is also the reason I still frequent them.

So if we find the appeal of these boards not in games but rather in socializing, then would it be completely unreasonable to expand this social realm to include topics that might appeal to an "of-age" user, despite the fact that they would otherwise be inappropriate for minors?

It isn't an unreasonable request at all, actually, I'd be in favor of it, despite how I may act like I wouldn't (like my earlier posts).

Though, I would present the idea to the admins, and the mods, using a well thought out post. You -do- have a good idea, and again, I'm not trying to be offensive, or insult you. Also, thank you for presenting yourself earlier in a mature manner when responding to my post, that speaks volumes for your idea.
