I've seen uglier. Didn't Origin also get accused for copying portal's look too.

Looks more like a Orange Ubisoft "eye".

That doesn't surprise me one bit. Stupid corporate people go to graphic designers and go, "I want something like this logo, but with my company's name!," and if it doesn't look basically the same, they get all pissed off. They have no concept of originality.

The reason they look the same is because when some important dude says "Our logo needs to be more modern" they really mean "Use a plain font, simple shapes, and only use two colors, no more and no less." or "Make it look like apple designed it."
