What are ya playing?

I sat down to play Hyrule Warriors tonight. I think I spent about two or three hours with it.

I can see how it can get repetitive, but I'm having fun with the game so far. I think it's one of those games where for me, I can enjoy it as long as I don't play too much of it in one go. Yes, I know I said that I played for two to three hours and that is a lot of time to spend with it to begin with, but I'll probably dwell my time to an hour per session, similar to what I did with Wolfenstein: The New Order for PS4.

The game throws a heap of Legend of Zelda fan service around. If you're a fan of the Zelda franchise, this should please and amuse you. If you're not a fan of the Zelda franchise, I have no idea why you'd be playing this game, unless you're obsessed with Dynasty Warriors.

The amount of characters on screen is astonishing but of course they're all copy and paste style models. Sometimes the game gets that hectic that the frame rate can drop a bit. Sometimes the mobs of enemies (especially the little "creeps") will just stand there and wait for you to destroy them. Sometimes your allies will also just stand there, even character allies such as Impa. It's like, they'll call out to you to help 'em as they're getting killed, you run over to help and they're just standing there, taking a paddling and you gotta save 'em. You'll find a lot of your allies (mostly the generic soldiers) will just stand there and only fight when there's enemies nearby.

It is pretty cool to fight bosses in big, hectic battles. Gives it a kinda epic war feeling, which is obviously what the game is going for. I especially had more fun battling the smaller, humanoid bosses, rather than the gigantic beasts. So far I've unlocked five characters, but my favourite characters so far to play as are Link and Impa.

I've finished four missions so far and I'm not sure how many there are in total, but each mission takes about forty five to sixty minutes to do. Never been killed in battle, but I have failed missions due to other characters dying or our main base being taken by the enemy.

The storyline is a bit dumb, but it doesn't really bother me. The graphics are pretty good, I think they're better than most reviewers describe (a lot of reviewers say it's an average looking game). The sound track is hit and mix... the orchestra sounds great, the orchestra and rock can sound cool, or sometimes super repetitive.

In battle, I find the dialogue very distracting, especially because it's all text based with no voice acting. So when you're busy fighting, characters say stuff on screen, it can be a little difficult to read what they're saying while fighting a hundred guys at once.

I've yet to play co-op, but I might see if my brother or my girlfriend will want to give that a try on the weekend.

So far I'm enjoying it, but it probably helps that I'm a big Zelda fan.

I was lucky enough to have one of those fat black box TVs with fancy buttons, had to connect most of my systems through the VCR but think the Genesis at least could just be connected directly with the TV.

Mass Effect 3

That From Ashes DLC, resonates throughout and the lore it provided, amazing.
And been playing it loads. Still loving it and still faithful to Tali.

The Geth/Quarian conflict, that was some real good stuff.

Krogan and the Genophage made me cry. A lot.

Know what game it was yesterday and today? Mass Effect 3, the part where you kill that bastard Kai Lang, which is so immensely satisfying for some douche who isn't a Reaper.
So worth it.

Spoilers on why this part is so awesome

"Renegade" option for stabbing the crap out of him with your omni tool blade and saying the equivalent of "This is for Thane, you bastard", which is the main reason for my urgent need to kill him. The fight bugged out on me but it was still easy, even on the restart. N7 Crusader shotgun still wrecks everything and stopped using the sniper rifle for it.

And by Proxy, Anderson's cereal. Nobody fucks with Anderson.

End awesome spoilers

And later on, an old friend returns, one of my best friends in the game: M920 Cain. We kicked so much ass before and we're kicking ass again.

If I replay this as a male again, it'd be Ashley in the first game and back to Tali in the second.

Curing it had me in tears, never thought I'd cry for that bit but I couldn't hold out.

I know everyone's getting annoyed by us talking about Mass Effect, but I'm gonna respond to HK-47 about it briefly.

On a side note, I'm currently playing three games - Destiny on PS4, Hyrule Warriors on the Wii U and Mass Effect 2 on the PS3. At the moment I'm playing Hyrule Warriors during the week, then on the weekend I play Mass Effect. I tend to play Destiny on Sunday/Monday nights.

I occasionally play the Super Smash Bros. 3Ds demo but it saddens me that there's no online play, with only local multiplayer available. That being said, the control scheme is annoying as hell for me, so I hope in the final version I'll be able to change the button layout. Still, I'll be getting Super Smash Bros. for both the Wii U and 3Ds.

Gonna use spoiler tags to respond to HK-47.

Potential spoiler:

When you kill Kai Leng, Shepard will kill him either way. In my first ever play through of Mass Effect 3, I did the same thing. As soon as Kai Leng approached Shepard with his blade raised in the air, I hit the Renegade response and as you know, Shepard moves off the Illusive Man's seat, performs a spinning back fist, shatters Kai Leng's blade before stabbing Kai Leng with his Omni-Blade, "That was for Thane, you son of a bitch".

In my second play through, I decided to not do the Renegade action and just see what happens. Well, Shepard still finishes off Kai Leng almost exactly the same, e.g. using his Omni-Blade, but instead of the epic sword shattering back fist, Shepard just gets up and spins off the chair before stabbing Kai Leng. So the result is pretty much the same, but the Renegade response is cooler.

End spoiler.

Watchdogs sounds real good now.

Something that isn't Mass Effect, Sid Meier's Pirates on the iPhone. Works real well but you can only have a fleet of 5 ships, down from the remake's original 10 or at least more than 5. And being able to auto-travel to cities you already visited is pretty nifty, and tracking for anything treasure related is real good, especially when the maps don't have any cities near them.

7 years in and Captain Anderson isn't even half way through his quests, but still good fun.

The power of catching up to recent games strikes hard, especially when they're pretty awesome.

And Renegade is definitely the way to go, but glad you can't possibly fail in being awesome.

X-COM: ENEMY UNKNOWN

I don't know why I didn't start playing this before. Shit is fucking fun and just what I needed to get me out of this funk I've been in with video games.

Though so far my two favorite squad members have died, but the de-facto squad leader who gets freaked and misses at the wrong times refuses to improve.

Team Fortress 2, Attack/Defend and always on a team with no medics. And whenever it's Mountain Lab, the engineers don't build teleports on defense. But whenever a team has a medic, he's a hero. And always thank the medic, they do the job no one else wants to do.

Still playing some Hyrule Warriors. Gotten to the point now where the levels/characters have split, so certain levels makes me play as certain characters.

I just want to play as Link all the time to pretend I'm playing The Legend of Zelda... May Cry.

After playing MGS: Ground Zeroes, I've gotten the urge to revisit Metal Gears of days past. So I've got the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection and I'm tearing though MGS 2. Once I'm done with 2 and 3, I'll tackle Peace Walker, which I've never played before, and should fill in some backstory I missed from Ground Zeroes.

Just came home with Super Smash Bros for the 3Ds.

I used to be -really- good at Melee and Brawl, so I need to practice this one! :p

My favourite character is Link, I also don't mind playing as Ike but he's a bit over powered. Maybe in the new version he's been nerfed?

I just sat down for a few hours to play. I played online matches against anybody. Fourteen matches in total, won seven but I also lost seven. A few of those games I got absolutely obliterated by Japanese players, some of them were VERY good, but at the same time lag often played a part in some of my losing matches... so my Internet connection probably sucks.

Taught me a few new tips and tricks though, especially with Link.

If anyone wants to add me to play some Super Smash, here's my 3Ds details...

When we played, you were a pretty good pyro. Mostly because you could airblast and ambush.
I can't remember if we managed to win. I don't think we did.

Thank you, I actually only learned to airblast ubered medics in one of those matches. Think it was with you and another medic that were tearing it up by ubering each other and capturing points. Some guy on our team said in voice chat for one of the pyros to airblast the medic and switched to the normal flamethrower to more effectively cancel out the uber. Only worked so-so with the backburner with it's 4 airblast cap but learned something new that time.

With the Backburner, I learned how to ambush and how to really play as a pyro. Also one of the reasons I love it: People entering in one way, I sneak around through another route and take them from behind, when they're about to attack or distracted. The backburner is a real room clearer when you can catch people by surprise.

When we were on the same team, think we won some of them. When you were tag-teaming with the medic, we won but once we lost, we kept on losing.
