Why did they let you trade in something free that was promotional for something that costs money? Your story doesn't make sense.

 

Well, same goes for showing off any expensive item in public. If you are scared that someone will beat you up for it then... don't.

Bleh, urban made it sound like you'd get robbed anywhere in NYC simply for trig something expensive in public. Personally i've never been sacred to use my iPhone on the subway. I dunno i just thought NYC wasn't all that dangerous after that whole 911 thing and everyone pulling together... I guess 9 years is long enough to fall into old habits.

 

I live in a pretty privileged part of the world (oxford) and i still dont feel totally safe with my itouch in public. You never know these days!

This happens in Canada too. I got my first iPod stolen back when the 20 Gig colors first came out. Had it for a couple days, then stolen!
