Good idea, bad idea or 'burn him to the ground!' bad idea?

Kijan

Rookie
I've gotten a little idea about reading Links article about a wargame called Under Ash. I realized how big the video game industry has become. So big that I miss a lot of good titles simply because I do not hear about them when they come out, but about a year or two later either in forum posts or articles I stumble upon.

And this is a darn shame I must say, because in my honest opinion a lot of 'mini budget' that are made by less known developers are a lot better than the big budget games. Not necessarily in graphics... but either in gameplay, story... they are MORE fun to play! :D

So I'd like to ask you dear Revolutionaries, what do you think of an idea where we would make a topic that would act as a list in which we would add games that we recommend for others to play? From the big budget ones to the underdogs! :D

I know there are reviews and I know I could probably find a lot information about less known good games on the internet, but frankly I and probably a lot of others on this board or those that are just reading them don't have the time to scour the internet to find hidden treasures. :)

I trust you guys. I believe that Revolutionaries only play good games and are objective enough to know which game they would recommend and which they would tell to avoid.

We could make a big list that covers all gaming systems, even not so successful ones. But for starters I'd say we begin with Playstation 2, Xbox, Gamecube, PC and go from here on to the current generation and then back to the oldies which are still goldies. :)

You would tell us the name of the game, which console is it on and also provide a link to either a trailer or review (or both, if you wish) so that others could get a better picture.

I'll start with two examples:

Grandia II (PS2)

Review: http://www.gamerevolution.com/review/dr ... grandia-ii (a port is available)
Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=behC0nc7Mr4

Valkyria Chronicles (PS3)

Review: http://www.gamerevolution.com/review/ps ... chronicles
Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bceYkhQjxGY

What do you think? Yay or nay? :)

Yay.

And let me start with SMT3: Nocturne, Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzunoha vs King Abaddon, Persona 3/4, Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2, and Ace Combat 4, 5, and 0.

Everything else is unacceptable. If you haven't played at least 75% of these games, leave and rectify this immediately.

Yes! Love this thread already!

To the above, would that Devil Summoner 2 include that plush doll of Jack Frost dressed as the main character with it? (Assuming it's part of the Collector's/Special Edition)
(And now that I think about it, I think I've seen someone who looks like him in an anime, but this isn't the time nor place)

I would play P4, but I lack a PS2. Am thinking of getting one for it though. (To shorten it, you could just say essentially the entire series)

Etrian Odyssey III: The Drowned City (DS)

That Zodiac does look like Viral.

Drill Dozer (GBA)

The Dark Spire (DS)

Me too...Just for the Personas.

I will add a few to the list when I can think of a few.

Well, it isn't the entire series. Revelations: Persona wasn't all that great so I left it out, Persona 2:IS was never released in the states (YET!) and ES is impossible to find, and while Raidou 1 had an amazing plot, the gameplay is kinda mediocre.

But I did leave out Strange Journey and Devil Survivor for DS. These are both great too, but please wait until you've played Nocturne to play SJ.

Yeah, good idea. I'd like it to be more recent games though. I'll probably never buy a new game that's past gen.
Plus, instead of one guy making a topic about a certain game, we can just post them all in here. Like the "literacy club" we used to do, topic king would name a game and everyone can discus it etc. It'd cut down the many many topics on separate games.

By the way, I'm liking some of these past recommendations, good shouts.

Wait... when you say PC, what era are you talking about? Cause... i got a whoooole list, and none of them are MMORPG and some have multiplayer.

PC games that you would recommend others to play - either MMORPG, multiplayer, FPS; RTS... :)

I wouldn't mind giving it a go, unless Kijan wants the job.
We could categorize them as genre as well, or would that be a bit much? As the list could grow pretty quickly.

But most of the series, which is pretty amazing. But it is Atlus. Seriously need to check it out once I get a PS2 or PSP.
And which Persona 3? (Just hit me that there are a few versions of it)

Here's hoping that I can find Nocturne.

Kijan and HK-47, brothers in arms in the most thrilling action-packed movie of the decade!

I'm totally down with that, and since it could be two people, we can also have reccomendations or like "you would like this if you've played so-and-so", or other games in the genre that could apply to the picks given.

Hmmm...

Whoever is going to have the master list and the Recommendation list, do it. We need to do it separately though.

If you like, i'll voulenteer when I have free time to do it.

I'll have to apologize for not posting for quite some time, but I really had a lot of stuff to do. Blame the system, not me! :p

So... I'd like to ask if there is any possibility that HK-47 and me edit a same post? Graceful mods, thy be there any chance? :) It would be easier to moderate the lists then.

I'm happy that you guys find my idea nice, I'll do my best also to execute it properly. I'm thinking of starting two new threads and adding a 'new' mechanic.

The first thread would be called Revolutionary Recommendations in which we'd post games that we wish to see on the list, that we recommend. And the second would be called Revolutionaries Holy Grail of Gaming in which me and HK-47 would categorize games via their perspective systems.

Which systems should we cover I don't know yet because I think that you're all avid gamers that also have played on a lot of non-mainstream consoles and non-mainstream games. We'll start with the basic ones (PS2, PS3, Gameboy, Wii, PC...). :)

The new mechanic I'd like to propose is called 'My holy Grail' mechanic. We all like to play games, right? And we love a lot of them, right? But it's in my opinion that we'd only do orgies with one, right?

*silence*

RIGHT!? :)

Here you could name only game and you are also only given one Grail. That means that from all the games you've played, experienced... here you'd list the game you'd do love with. The game you 'PERSONALLY' find to be the best game in the world and would recommend it to anyone. White, yellow, black, women, men, children, old people, dogs, cats, the hobo on the street, the wall, the birds... it doesn't matter to whom or what because you think that this game is for EVERYONE.

You'd recommend it like every other game, with the exception that because this is your favorite game you can also add a little description as to why it is your Holy Grail. :)

For example:

Kijans Holy Grail of Gaming

Lazor man II

Review: www.blahblahblah.com
Trailer: www.cantwatchityoucantwatchthis.com

It's Lazor man II with double lazors! Awesomeness right there! :D

Crappy example... I know, but you get the gist of. The description can be longer, but don't need to write another War&Peace to elaborate as to why you think that you're choice should be considered in a gamers library. :D

It's also a one time 'power', after you've used it you cannot do it again. So choose carefully, young Revolutionaries. :)

Hope you'll continue to like my ideas or at least bear them. :)

I wish you all a revolutionary happy & good day. :D

If we make it into one thread, with discussions and people's list of Holy Grail games and everything, the first post or two could have the master list and links to the posts with the description of the game/the actual nominations of the games themselves.
