So, I was at a friend's house, and there was a GI magazine on the coffee table. Borderlands 2 blah blah blah, borefest. Along comes the Dark Souls page, and I'm looking at the Game Info right? I'm hoping what I saw was a typo or something. Platforms: 360, PC. <--------- :|
Actually, the thing is it isn't coming to PC and is only 360 and PS3. I think that's the point he's making.
I get GI too, but I normally skim through it and find that I already know everything and have played everything contained within. The E3 issue in particular gave me some weird vibes because in 1998 I was pouring over every single word in an E3 issue and now I'm like "yeah, I did that."
The time delay is something else. They seem to be about two months behind, almost as if they ran a special issue once and were just never able to make up for lost time. Most of the info in it is readily available and has been in daylight for quite a while before the magazine shows up in the mailbox. That said, some of the interviews still make it worth while to peruse. A few months back they had an interview with Ice T that I thought was pretty awesome. Who woulda thought that Ice T is increasing the Bodycount on Black Ops?
That's the problem with gaming mags. They're not specialist enough. They need to filled with features, not screen shots and previews and news. They need to fill the pages with stuff you won't see anywhere else. I want a gaming magazine that has like "stories from the development team" and things like that. I guess reviews still have a place in gaming mags, but really nothing else does.
GameInformer is awesome. I don't care what anyone says, it's the only game mag left that is worth reading. When I was a boy: Gamepro, EGM and Ultra Game Players When I was a young man: Gamefan and Next Generation Now: Game Informer That's about it.
True. Well, I still get Gamepro(mostly for nostagia...started with issue 3), and it is total fucking garbage. They don't even review games anymore.
