I've recently started reading this classic piece of science fiction fantasy. I'm only about 25% through (so no spoilers!) but I like it very much. The first bit actually reminded me quite a bit of H.G. Wells' stories. Very well-written. Dan Simmons does a great job of describing a fully realized world, and doing it in his characters' voices.
