US prisons

If i fucking told you 10 years ago the government was monitoring every phone call, email and text message you'd have reacted the same way. Now you've got the government straight up admitting it and passing laws to make it legal.

While you may have been thinking this

I'm suspecting Australia's more like this.

Go champion the rights of the Australian prisoner first, Madster. Or again, jump off of this circle jerk and onto MS Word, make a few long distance phone calls and get cracking.
Otherwise, what's the point? You wanted to remind us that jail sucks, in between our video game and comic book news? Thanks for the heads up!

Here's a quote from CNN covering the same story:

Of the three prisoners who received more than two decades of solitary confinement, none will be able to serve their full punishment -- their sentences are all up before 2025.

They likely wouldn't have spent all that time in solitary confinement anyway. As a result of
such long sentences, the South Carolina Department of Corrections has been forced to suspend punishments due to a lack of solitary confinement cells.

Just last week, the state began to roll back its use of solitary confinement as punishment for social media use. It will eventually cap time alone at 60 days -- and inmates can be let out early with good behavior.

So you're skipping this entire part about "effective life sentences" capping out at 60 days, with some being let out early with good behavior.

Make them phone calls, Madster, no one is stopping you. Also, I understand some drains in your area have been malfunctioning, sucking in people and what not. I need you to check your sinks and toilets and tell me which way the water is going and, PLEASE, stand clear!
Just as important.

I found this on Google and it's kinda relevant. Well, sort of.

Wow this really blew up since I posted on here last. You chaps have brought up some interesting points. But I have to agree as well that dumb people make dumb mistakes. HOWEVER, this seems to be a bit extreme, and over the top punishment for this "crime".

I'd ask what happened to this thread, but i'm sure madster's all too busy harassing US congress men with phone calls, organizing protest rallies, etc.
...

NAH! He's probably just torrenting Better Call Saul s01e01 - s01e05. Priorities, you know.

But seriously, inmates online? Yeah, no. There's your problem.

The inmates aren't paying for the computers and the ISPs that take them online... Why do they have this option, then when they go online - why punish them? Prison.Industrial.Complex.

You can teach an inmate to use computers and learn applicable skills inside your local network. This is a huge oversight by the prison administration, and they had to blame someone... so punish the inmate.. with an INSANE jail sentence.. makes perfect sense. More public funds for the prison.

I wonder what the inmate in madster's original post was studying before going onto Facebook to give his family a nice little poke. But aww, some guys get all the bad breaks. I imagine they took his right to learn away, too, when they took his PC. Now he'll have to make use of the books found in the library. Truly cruel and unusual punishment given this day and age. I mean where's the YouTube?! Then again, paper and pen may be exactly what he needs, not FB.
