Yes you do. Just read the wiki plot. But it is good to play the first 5-6 chapters plot-wise.

I did like the ending to AC3... no not the shall-never-be-reminded Desmond ending, i mean the Connor ending. I suggest if AC3 is too much to play before Ac4 to just watch the cutscenes on youtube.
