I feel ashamed that I haven't heard of this already, but apparently Valve is releasing a new shooter similar to what I assume Alien Breed is like (never played that game). It will have 4 player co-op, all the steam goodies that exist nowadays, and best of all it claims to be completely free, highly mod-able, and is coming out in like 3 days! Have you guys heard of this?
