OK guys, I think we need some calm mediation here.
Jim Morrison was an asshole. Can we all agree on that? I think we can. He's the reason the doors broke up. He did way too many drugs and drank way too much. His music was important to the development of modern rock and will be listened to for a long time. He was pretty talented. More so than pretty much all of us.
Amy Winehouse did for R&B what nobody has done since Motown: she made it a mainstream genre again. She had a pretty damned good voice and was talented enough to produce a successful jazz album as well. She was also more talented that pretty much all of us. Was she able to produce the breadth of work that Morrison did? No. But she was talented and did have an effect on contemporary pop music. Also, she's not Justin Bieber.
Can we really compare them? No. It's like comparing apples to oranges. Or the Beatles to Bruce Springsteen. They're not from the same era or the same genre.
