Mount Dropbox as a Drive in Finder

I ran into the same issue with large media files, and syncing everything locally made no sense for me either. What helped was looking into how to add dropbox folder to finder https://mac.eltima.com/add-dropbox-to-finder/ using a different approach. I found a good guide on mac that showed how to mount Dropbox like a drive instead of a sync folder. After setting it up, my Finder shows all my Dropbox directories without actually downloading them to my Mac. It feels a lot cleaner, and my SSD finally stopped screaming.

Keeping huge folders off the actual drive helps keep the system fast and responsive, and it’s easier to stay focused when I’m not constantly moving things around or deleting files just to free up room. A setup where storage lives remotely but still feels local usually ends up being a good balance between convenience and performance.

I can totally relate to this—syncing huge media libraries locally can be a nightmare for SSD space. Mounting Dropbox like a drive instead of forcing a full sync is a really smart workaround, especially for Mac users who just need access without local storage overhead. Having everything visible directly in Finder while keeping files online-only makes the workflow much cleaner and more efficient. Thanks for sharing this approach; it’s a great tip for anyone struggling with storage limits and heavy cloud usage.
