Basically, MLP started out as a bunch of people making fun of a kids show and watching it "ironically" and all of that. Then after a little while, someone was like "Well, it's not too bad." "Yeah, the animation isn't bad." "I mean, it's fun sometimes" etc. etc. and then it exploded into this
