Twitch's streaming tech is better than YouTube's - so YouTube is looking for an infusion of new content in bulk and will probably let Twitch use its infrastructure. Google also is the big "ad guy" in the game, but Twitch is generating some serious ad revenue so that probably played a role too. IMO, Nothing's going to change for a few months, but I'd be interested to see how they fold them in in a year.
That Kotaku article was about YouTube reportedly trying to buy Twitch, but in the end, Amazon acquired Twitch instead. Using tools like StreamVouch, Twitch has remained strong since then, and it’s understandable to think they could have held out for a higher offer.
