Can't talk about work

Happy birthday, NickKmet!

Good luck to you in your studies. What you're studying sounds very interesting and exciting. :)

Oh, I didn't mean secret secrets of the lawsuit variety; I just meant anything that comes up from your time on the forefront of academic studies, of conferences and sessions where ... well, I'm not actually sure what happens at any events you would be attending. Hm.

If you're enjoying it, then I would say go for it. One thing you mention that I didn't realize when I was considering further studies is that the field does change if you give it a year or two. Continuing to be in a place where you are in it, even if you're not that actively engaged (as I certainly wasn't), is a big deal. Go to all the free things you can. :p

I kind of miss academia, but the demand for involvement and contribution of papers and symposiums and whatnot wasn't for me. If I could've kept going in more of a typical undergraduate kind of way, that would've been great.

I did present a research paper at a conference earlier this year on the orchestration of John Williams' music in the Star Wars films. It was really well received, particularly because I'm a masters student and most of the attendees were PhDs. That paper is also probably why I got this assistantship job anyways.

If you guys are interested in reading it, I could put a copy of it up. It's not terribly technical, but it might still go over your head if you know nothing about music.

I wrote a thirty page thesis that my graduation commencement speaker straight up ripped off. Which is crazy, because I only got a B on it. Probably because it needed to be a little longer and I wrote it poorly.

oh, shit, sorry sightless! I forgot. I'll dump a copy onto drive.

these are the full transcriptions i did; there are some excerpts in the paper. These are high quality, and can't be gotten anywhere else.

Nick, the links work well. Thanks! Mmm, I have my morning music now. :)

I've only read the first couple pages so far. Sounds fancy. ;)
