Maya Angelou passed away this morning
Marguerite Ann Johnson A.k.A Maya Angelou
April 4, 1928 – May 28, 2014
R.I.P
She was a streetcar conductor (the first black person to have this position, really!), dancer, cook, sex worker, singer, composer, Tony Award nominated actress, journalist, college administrator, professor, market researcher, television producer, and film director... Oh yeah and she was a world renown poet and one of the biggest civil rights activist against segregation, apartheid, sexism and LGBT issues since the 1960s. So yeah, she was a big thing... Thank you for telling us why the caged bird sang, Maya!Dr. Maya Angelou passed quietly in her home before 8:00 a.m. EST. Her family is extremely grateful that her ascension was not belabored by a loss of acuity or comprehension. She lived a life as a teacher, activist, artist and human being. She was a warrior for equality, tolerance and peace. The family is extremely appreciative of the time we had with her and we know that she is looking down upon us with love.
