First impressions make or break an MMORPG for me. I’d rather start in the actual world than a long solo instance. A short cinematic is fine, but let me play fast.
I’m a big fan of race or class-based starting zones too. It makes the world feel alive and layered instead of everyone spawning in the same beginner camp. Starting biome matters less to me than atmosphere. Classic woods are comfy, but opening in a stormy port town or war-torn border region instantly sets tone.
In Warvox, we focused on throwing players into real combat early so the opening reflects the core gameplay immediately.
