GameRevolution - Your Ads Really Suck

Hey current staff to GameRevolution.

I understand that websites of today need a way to generate a reliable revenue for various reasons, but your site's ads are absolutely worse than ever.

It honestly pains me to write a post complaining about this, because I have been visiting GameRevolution since 2006 (earlier than that, I was all about getting 'dem GoldenEye: 007 cheat codes in 1999) and I worked with staff in GameRevolution from the beginning of 2014 to the end of 2016.

But even on the bloody forums, guys. Every time I load a new page, any page, my browser (Google Chrome) is punched in the face by the same, irritating advertisement for the Modern Warfare remake. Go to the main forum page? MW ad. Click on a category? MW ad. Click on a thread? MW ad. Make a new thread, like this one? You guessed it, MW ad.

I have to wait five seconds for the automatic video, blaring its soundtrack at me, to give me the opportunity to close it, and even then when I move my mouse to close the ad, the centre video box becomes bigger and the 'X' to close button moves up. If I miss said 'X' and accidentally click on the video, well, then I get taken to another website.

It's incredibly annoying to do this. Every. Single. Page.

I normally don't use ad-blocker, but I think now is the time.

I have to use three separate ad blockers just for this site. I too have been using it since the late 90s and the ads just got more insane than ever. At least with the blockers, all I get is some pop-up message that makes me click on ‘click if you want to continue to not support us’ and I have no issue the rest of the visit. I would feel bad about it, but GR is a distant shadow of it’s former self, so I don’t.

Good news, everyone! The Modern Warfare remake intrusive ad is gone.

And has now been replaced by another ad of the exact same obnoxious, intrusive manner, this time of the latest Fifa game!

Thanks, GR!
