Has anyone else seen this yet? I just got back from the theater.

I definitely didn't enjoy it as much as Casino Royale, and i found myself disinterested for parts of it. Though, i have had some trouble over the last few days getting excited about anything. I don't know what that is all about.

Anyways, I thought it opened well, but much of the story was a bit fast paced and could have used a bit more explanation. The action was incredible, though some of it was obviously CGI and that dissapointed me somewhat. I was hoping they would have stayed with the "more gritty less flash" approach. I guess it wasn't over done, but still, it was noticeable.

I thought the writing was overall slightly lacking, but i made the mistake of not watching Casino Royale over the last few days so i don't really have much to compare it to.

The title sequence was horrible. I liked the song, but the visuals and graphics were downright boring and lame. That might have contributed to my lack of interest at the onset.

The Goldfinger tribute was a nice touch though.

Thoughts?

It was disappointing, I liked it, but I just had so much excitement for this movie and it sadly didn't live up to it. The reviews weren't even that good, but still I clung onto that false hope...

First off *Spoilers ensue*
I know a lot of people are saying this, but it was really too short. You never got enough solid facts about the mysterious organization/quantum. It never went into detail about what the hell the villain was doing--he just seemed like an annoying prick with a lame ass plan. What really bugged me was thew whole strawberry fields character. Bond can't be heartbroken and still fool around with other women it took some of the vulnerability that I thought they were going for in this bond series away. Then she was in it for 5 minutes before she fuckin died. The action seemed cut back in the whole opera part (where it was reduced to little more than a montauge, while albeit cool, it wasn't really what I was expecting).

Despite all that I said I actually liked it. Wasn't nearly as good, nevertheless still a decent romp.

I agree with what both of you have said.

It really doesn't stand alone by itself really well, and should be watched back back with Casino Royale.

Yeah, I think going in with that knowledge one can forgive the lack of character development and the hour and a half runtime and tons of action. Of course, if they do the same with the next entry, it's time to start worrying.

I just hope Craig has a four film contract like Brosnan did.

I thought it was good. I also like that it is a true sequel and not just another adventure. Adds the feeling that the whole series has been restarted, which makes me think a little bit about the plot, that maybe the organization they talk about is SPECTRE, and the dams are built as extortion. It makes a lot of sense, thinking that the banking in Casino was done to support terrorism. But who knows.

I guess Marc Forester actually did a decent job, considering this movie was waaaaaay out of his field (previous track record includes Finding Neverland and Stranger Than Fiction). Also in his interviews he never seemed quite Gung-Ho about working on it.

I loved it. Great action, good enough story. I didn't love Casino Royale as much as most people did, so that's probably why, even thought it was pretty damn good. Good sequel to it.

are you saying this because you don't like craig or because you can't wait to see three more films with him?

Can someone explain to me why Casino Royale is now considered the best Bond movie for so many people? I, for one, still feel Sean Connery is the best Bond, and there are far more classic Bond movies that top an hour and half poker game.

I really really liked Casino Royale. I did like this one, but I was disappointed. I think it lost a lot of the grittyness of the first one and the action didn't meet that benchmark. Even though I agree that it should be viewed as a sequel and should get a semi-pass on the character development, I did feel like it was really uneven.

Maybe when I look back on it I'll appreciate it more.

I want to see more of him as Bond. I only referenced a contract because as far as I know, they replace every actor to have played Bond :*(.

The only Bond movies that can even stand a chance in comparison with Casino Royale are Dr. No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, and On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Those are just the ones that are reasonable. But what's great about Casino Royale is that it isn't just a beginning and an end to another similar chapter. It was a whole restart of the series, with a continuing plot. That's also why I think they are bringing SPECTRE back.

See, my respect for you has increased greatly due to your selection of Bond Films. You named all of my favorite favorites, although like most our age I am partial to Goldeneye and I have a soft spot for the Timothy Dalton films, even though I know they don't hold a candle to Connery.

But I still was not that won over by Casino Royale. Was it better than all of the Roger Moore era Bond's and some of the Brosnen? Of course, but I still feel it pales in comparison to Connery.

I also am waiting for them to do Colonel Sun.

All of Brosnan's movies had too much machine gun fire hitting just next to him on both sides. And as for Dalton, The Living Daylights had the cello that kinda took away from the movie, but both of them were good. I like License to Kill because, like Quantum of Solace, it shows that Bond isn't just motivated by duty.

But my favorite Bonds go in this order

Connery/Craig

Dalton
Lazenby
Brosnan

Moore

Give or take. Connery loses a few points simply for Never Say Never Again.

lol, longo. i like your list. especially with roger moore way the fuck down at the bottom well below everyone else where he belongs.

Casino Royale is the best thing since Goldfinger, in my opinion. It was just that badass. And Craig made it all the better.I would rank them as such:

Connery is still the best of all time, but Craig could end up damned close depending on how future films turn out.

Dalton and Lazenby are at a dead heat for me. I liked them both, and i think that if they had been given more movies, they could have improved greatly upon the character.

Brosnan was good in Goldeneye. Personally i liked Tomorrow Never Dies, even though it wasn't a great movie. After that, he went downhill fast, but he showed promise early on.

Roger Moore. Oh Roger Moore. How i hate Roger Moore. All his movies were god awful. I can't believe they let him make so many god damned movies.

As a guy who's read a couple of the books I think Craig is the closest to his book counterpart, which makes him my favorite. A lot of people don't realize that the the Connery era Bond films were parody's of the books, and not faithful adaptations. Sean Connery was great, but even Dalton played the character more faithfully than he did.

I really enjoyed Quantum, more so than Casino Royale. I did watch them more or less simultaneously, and I found that there weren't that many questions that were answered. I thought the action was much better, and he did a better job as bond in the second one. Overall, I liked it, and I think Craig is a great bond (not as good as Brosnan, who I think was awesome).

I know this is slightly off topic (even though it is my own topic) but i didn't think it warranted a new topic. Did anyone else enjoy the new Star Trek trailer attached to the front of QoS?
