Methodical combat is very essential to add a thick meat to the overall experience/journey. It's not padding, it's flexibility ,dexterity, decision-making, it's urgency, every single mistake can mean an end to your journey.it's intimacy, knowing fully-well the abilities and potential of each combatant, and how to utilize them properly.

More and more developers should develop more methodical combat systems instead of 'immersive, living ,breathing, organic' world, a meaningless catchphrase that was dead in 2007 that has attracted more movie-school rejects into our industry rather than talented game designers that nearly destroys the identity of gaming if not for Japanese developers.

Moving forward doesn't mean giving up identity or reinventing the wheel, moving forward means digging deep into what defines its existence, exploring what that initial definition failed to capture, and expand upon it with the current know-how and wisdom to cover what the initial definition failed to capture,so that the definition becomes more rooted, and the existence becomes more immutable.
