My dog (Tippy) had to be put down today. She's been pretty sick for a year now, and 4 visits to the vet, including one specialist in Toronto, have confirmed there's nothing that can be done. It's some type of lung infection in addition to a tumor, she's been constantly gagging and spitting up, but the last month there's been a fair bit of blood in the pools she's been leaving behind

I've had several dogs, but this one was by far the best. Got her as a rescue dog, she was horribly malnourished when we got her, and very untrusting of people, we assume she was abused. The choker that was on her, you couldn't fit fit a finger between the chain and her neck. I cut it off as soon as we had her in the house and she was happier than a pig in shit.

She still wanted nothing to do with the family for about a year but finally started coming around. Now after 5 years her quality of life has dropped off the charts, she can't go on runs anymore without limping, she can barely breath, just sucks is all.

never easy man :( and when you have to put that much work into making them a good dog because they had a bad upbringing you just get that much more attached.

    sorry to hear

Sorry to hear buddy. I had a cat who I basically grew up with as a kid. She died 5 or so years ago, it's a tougher grief then you'd think it is.

yeah, I sobbed like a little bitch the entire way home

and Rain, pitbulls are beautiful dogs that get a bad rap because of shitty owners, close friend has two of them, most well behaved dogs I've come across

Sorry, man. Losing a pet is really tough. Pets tell you how much they love you every single day of their lives. That kind of love is fucking ancient and spiritual.
And that's how she knew you loved her back.

yeep they're amazing. talk to any vet, anybody who works with dogs, anyone who knows someone responsible with a pitbull and they have nothing but great things to say about them.

i wish i could get another one eventually, but nope, the ontario law will be in place forever.

Yeah, I know how it is. Though at least you were there when she got put down. I had my dog for 17 years, and really I think he was too determined to be with us to die. Like, he had been in failing health for years, but he was really still able to move.
But my sister, who was working at a vet's office, decided that we needed to put him down, and even tried to get me to help get him put to sleep behind my dad's back. Finally, when me and my dad were both on vacation, she just went "Well he wasn't doing too well so we put him to sleep."

Ah well, that was probably for the best, but he was still kickin pretty hard.

Sorry to read, Icepick. Like MattAY, I had a cat name Smokey. That cat was awesome. It wasn't the kind that would rub against your leg. No, he never did that. Instead, he would sit and watch TV. Sometimes he'll sit at the window and scream at whatever he sees. He died on the release of The Dark Knight. I remember, because I came home and he was just lying there. He was still alive, but it was probably a diseased rodent he ate. I tried staying up as long as I could to see if it turns for the worse. Passed out and woke up to find he died. Shit is pretty tough when you consider the pet to be part of the family.

Man, you get pets knowing that they're going to die long before you do, but you tell yourself it doesn't matter, and you literally love them to death.

Jeez, used. Settle down. You don't have to be a jerk in the guy's thread about his dead dog.
